THE FUTURE HAS HONOR
“The future begins right here.”
With the opening camera shot finding us inside of the brand new apartment complex that Daniel was staying in for his trips to any of the Project: Honor showings he had, he knew that once he had settled in, it was time to go to work again. Sacramento to Venezuela was a long trip ahead and Daniel, sorting through his range of ring gear over the years, was ready to go to war for the first time in eight months. Fresh off of an injury or not, he was willing to make sure he was prepared.
“It feels so weird being able to speak about the sport that I love so dearly and the sport that I helped rebuild in my own home country to the point where the Irish professional wrestling scene has been at an all-time high right now. It feels so weird being able to speak about the sport that I love so dearly after everything that’s happened in the past twelve months with an ankle injury and even through some mental health illness issues that went down. It just feels so weird heading into a company that I know that nobody knows me for but fresh starts are sometimes the best.” Daniel cracked a smile on his face. ”I won’t bore you with the details, and I certainly won’t bore you with a mouthful of gibberish that not a whole lot of people want to know about. Certainly, they’ll know in the near future or even if they just google my name but at the same time, it’s all about the future and how I want to do things. Within time, I assure you that everything will soon make sense, but within that time I hope to make somewhat of a name here in Project: Honor.” Pointing to the floor. ”I can tell you that this is something to be excited for, as someone who’s as equally excited to see what the newcomers to the brand- or even the company- can bring to the table in the hopes of finding a brand new shining star.”
”But for hopefuls like Tara Fenix and John Blade, as much as they might be shining stars in their own right, I shoot for the stars and aim for the moon with what I can bring to the table and I know that we’re all equal in the ring. Some might disagree and some might not but that’s the beauty of it all really, isn’t it? I understand that both of you have made some noise in the past compared to myself but this is where I can make a little bit of noise for the sake of it all, don’t you think?” Daniel, once again, cocked a smile on his face. “I understand that Tara Fenix, she’s a former champion of many titles with long lineages. See that XHF X*Crown Championship, for example. Some call it the staple of professional wrestling and let’s be honest here, she’s definitely not the first of them to come along to Project: Honor after all. But that doesn’t mean that she can’t bring a heavy fight to the table, can she? Oh, compadre, times are hard and seeing you having to rely on picking up the scraps of what you once were to finally make a little bit of noise after all this time is.”
The Captain took it upon himself to tap along the side of his head after that snide comment directed towards Tara, but even then, he brought his focus on packing his bags ahead of his trip to Venezuela. In his hand are the pure white wrestling tights that he’s become so accustomed to that it’s like his regular wrestling gear. It only felt fitting for him to wear them on his debut match for Project: Honor.
”Though I won’t deny your talent, Tara. I know your worth and I know what you can bring to the table. There’s a reason why you’ve won all of these championships before in the past and hell, if you could right now, you could easily become the champion again. Though, that’s not the topic right now. I just don’t see you coming out on top however, it seems as if you’re full of yourself- but who am I to judge when the entire Project: Honor roster has been full of themselves for as long as I’ve been watching in the last eight months. Let me guess however, it’s always about this or it’s about that but it’s never about giving others the chance to speak and the chance to fight. I know I don’t have a dog in the fight but you know what I won’t do however? Make a whole submission and not have moves that could target that one area.” A quick shrug of the shoulders by Daniel. ”I’ve watched and I’ve watched some of your matches and seriously? A submission that targets the legs but all you do in the ring is either a Suplex or a DDT or even a Moonsault. I’m sure you’ll correct me and tell me that you’ve beaten many with the Figure Four Leg Lock but how am I able to take a move seriously when you’ve no way to set it up.”
”No kicks, no way of damaging the leg, nothing of the sort. I have a Dragon Sleeper as a submission move but I also have many ways to target the head and the neck area, and when I drive a knee to the head or maybe even my Sheer Drop Brainbuster could put some damage onto the opponent, it’ll all add up when I lock in that Surfboard Dragon Sleeper of mine. I don’t call it mercy for nothing, Tara. I find flaws in your system and what can you do to back yourself up in this situation, my dear, but to accept it and let the truth be told. Maybe I might have made you change your mind about things, maybe I might have allowed you to open your eyes and quite possibly, I might have allowed yourself to adapt to a brand new wrestling style than before.” Once more, that smile appears on his face. ”I’m sure you can thank me later on when the match is done and the bell has rung for a finish. But let me give you this piece of advice from myself, Tara. A phoenix is something that rises from the ashes and rises from the darkness, and as far as I can tell, you’ve been in the light many times before and you’ve never seen the darkness in all of these years. You, Tara, are no phoenix. That whole moniker of being ‘The Phoenix Queen’ does not stand by who you are.”
”If I were to call anyone a phoenix around here, I might just call John Blade a phoenix rather than you.”
Daniel threw in the final piece he needed for his in-ring gear bag, and that being his classic “STILL MY ERA” shirt that became popular along the Japanese markets within the past two years. With that final piece added and the bag zipped shut, Daniel finally brought his attention to the camera recording.
“Speaking of the man himself, it’s John Blade everyone. I’ve heard many tales about you, John. Some good, some bad, some in between and frankly, I can’t blame them for their judgements seeing as how you are in older content I’ve found. I’m aware that the year is 2021 and everything needs that cultural reset so we can move onto bigger and better things but John, it’s like you latched onto something that was in 2004- at the peak and when it was fresh and hot and something never seen before- and have kept a hold onto that since then.“ The Captain pauses for a moment, trying to recollect his thoughts. “It’s just so strange to me, John, and when I was hearing about this man named John Blade, I thought that this man was the best thing since sliced bread. I had high expectations but just as I expected, they were shot down with… well whatever this might be. I understand it, John. Big time moves are being made, a big new company for yourself to be involved in and here you are, ready to strut your stuff all over the damn shop. The problem is that everything you do, everything you say, even the way you speak and the verbiage is just… old school. I might have been wrong when I said that you’ve kept a hold onto something that worked back in 2004, John. You basically live the lifestyle of 2004.“
“But I didn’t come to be impressed by your amazingness, John. I didn’t come to be glamoured by the memeable legend that is you, John. I came for profit and you, my friend, do not come with the profit of it all. Your name speaks into the history but all you bring to the table is the laughs of many that watch you come and go, seeing who you are and realising that as much as you take yourself to be this mega star, all you do is sit on your ass all day and do nothing. If there’s anything you could do right now is maybe come up with some different kind of shtick because of all of this, John?“ He gestures to- well- basically everything that John is. “All of this doesn’t mean a single damn thing inside of that ring. All of the talk and all of the chatter, when it comes down to being in that ring, you’ve to put where your mouth is and bring those hands up, start swinging and try to hit a good knockout punch or you could just stand there and hug me as if I’m Floyd Mayweather. All is fair, John, because of you wanting to waltz right in here and act like billy big bollocks, we’ll treat you how you’re meant to be treated and THAT is a fact, John. There’s no legend, there’s no tale, there’s no slapstick comedy that only those from the 2000’s can remember. But for as long as you stay stuck in the past, the future will be perfectly fine without you.“
Daniel took a seat at the foot of his bed in the apartment complex, reminding himself of the good times and how it feels to be back in front of a camera once again, reminding himself of how relaxing it can be to thrash on someone who deserves it. Daniel, though leaning forward, begins to smile uncontrollably.
“Eight long months, boys and girls, and although that might not seem like a long time- but when you’re someone like me, and you sit there in the silence and let your voices become loud just so you can hear a conversation happening around you, it feels like forever.“ Keeping that smile on his face as he adjusts his posture. “But at the end of the day, I don’t care to look into my past and make it seem like I’ve got an entire advantage against everyone. All that I care about is the future and being reasonable here with everyone, including Tara and John, the future belongs to me because I want to be the standard bearer for what the future can hold. I’ve done it before in the past and I’ll do it again if I have to. The future doesn’t belong to John Blade. The future doesn’t belong to Tara Fenix. The future belongs to Daniel Ackerman.“ A confident smirk on his face grows. “-and at Hell on Earth, I will show that the future has honor rushing through it’s veins, and I will be the one who rewrites what it means to have honor.“
“Captain out.“
One final glance to the lens of the camera, and that same confident smirk from Daniel, is what we see before we soon fade to black on what could be Project: Honor’s future. Though only time will tell if that statement becomes the truth or not.
