PETEY TALKS TO HIS MOM
HIS MOM'S HOUSE
Morning always comes early for Petey, mostly because he sleeps in until he finally wants to get up with no regard to anyone else’s time. To him, everyone lives on ‘Petey Time’ which just means everything revolves around him. His family thought he was getting better until someone called and snitched on him to his mom about being late to something. He had a couple ideas, mostly because he always hangs out with the same people, but he figured he’d hear from his mom.
The biggest problem was getting up early. Dude’s hair was frizzier than normal and he just rolled straight out of bed, slipped on a shirt, pants and shoes, then made his way over. Traffic wasn’t that bad given that it was about eight o’clock in the morning and most people are on the road running late for work or school. When Petey finally arrives at his mom’s house, he steps inside and breakfast is laid out for him on the table. He immediately takes a seat and starts digging in.
PETEY’S MOM
“Are you even going to say anything to me?”
Petey takes a bite of his cereal and finishes chewing before saying anything.
LIL PETEY
“Hey, Mom. How have you been?”
PETEY’S MOM
“Better now that I finally get to see my son. It’s been way too long, kiddo.”
LIL PETEY
“I’m not really a kiddo anymore. I’m a grown man.”
PETEY’S MOM
“Judging by those clothes, I’d say otherwise.”
LIL PETEY
“We really gonna do this this early?”
PETEY’S MOM
“I’m your mom, I will always say something. Especially when you’re walking around looking like a… I don’t even know what to compare this to…”
This is why Petey doesn’t visit his mom often. She’s very judgemental about his lifestyle and choices, but at the end of the day, that’s his mom. At this moment, though, he’s just enjoying the breakfast.
LIL PETEY
“This is my style, Mom. When are you going to just accept it?”
PETEY’S MOM
“What are you talking about? I accept you for who you are. I always have. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to poke fun at you for walking around looking like a fool, though.”
Petey set the spoon against the edge of the bowl and took a sip of his orange juice. After a second or so of sipping the juice, he sets the glass down and looks up at his Mom.
LIL PETEY
“You’re telling me… all this time I thought you didn’t approve of anything I’m doing, you really did… and were just messing with me?”
His mom starts laughing.
PETEY’S MOM
“That’s exactly what I just said. You never talk to me anymore and you’re my son. I have to have my fun while I can before you go off doing your own thing again.”
Hiding his feelings, Petey picks the spoon back up and starts shoving his face with cereal until the bowl is empty. His mom just sits on the opposite side of the table playing on her phone. Petey grabs the silver cup of juice and drinks the rest of it before setting it back down.
LIL PETEY
“Thank you, Mom.”
Shocked at the words that just came out of his mouth, Petey’s Mom gets up and walks into the other room. Petey is now confused at why she left the room, but instead of worrying too much, he pours another glass of juice and some more cereal in his bowl. You know, gotta get the most out of the milk that’s already in the bowl instead of pouring more or wasting it!
After a minute or two of eating, Petey finishes his food and drinks the rest of the juice before getting up from the table. When he stands up, his mom walks back into the room with a big photo album.
PETEY’S MOM
“Let’s go into the living room and look through these pictures together. We’ve never looked at them together. There’s a lot of memories in this.”
Usually Petey would scoff and fight to do such a thing, but this is a completely different side of him we’re seeing here. He almost seems to be enjoying it.
LIL PETEY
“Are the pictures of me as a baby with my fresh kicks in there?”
Petey’s Mom nods at him with a smile on her face.
LIL PETEY
“Okay, sure. I’ll take a look. Mostly because I think that was the start of my fresh ass look I’ve carried with me to today.”
Petey and his mom go into the living room and sit on the couch together. She opens the photo album and the two start flipping pages and reminiscing on past memories. They probably did this for about thirty minutes before they got to the end of the album. By the end of it, Petey and his mom were hugging and she started crying. This was one of the uncomfortable situations he doesn’t really know how to handle. Petey is used to bottling up his emotions and does a great job at it. Seeing his mom cry was a bit different though. He wasn’t sure if he did something wrong or if they were tears of joy.
It felt like one of those moments he didn’t want to take a risk and say anything, so he just continued to hug her until she started to pull away. His mom wipes away her own tears and takes a deep breath.
PETEY’S MOM
“Sorry, I know you hate seeing people cry, I just couldn’t help it… I’m so proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished in life and seeing you constantly get better is what every mom hopes for. I remember you struggling in school and seeing you now with all this money, fans, and you even seem happy now.”
The next few seconds were pretty silent. Petey doesn’t handle emotions well and for his mom to say the heart-warming shit she just dropped on him… he wasn’t sure what to do. Both of them took a second before Petey finally said something.
LIL PETEY
“I love you, Mom. Thank you.”
PETEY DUNKS ON ‘EM
THE HIP HOUSE
Later that day, Petey makes his way back home to The Hip House. It was a long and emotional day already, so he’s really looking forward to just relaxing and studying up for his upcoming match in Project: Honor. When he walks up to the door, he looks to the side to see the basketball hoop and the ball just sitting out. Petey double takes at the door to the house and the basketball court.
LIL PETEY
“I guess I can ball a lil bit before going in.”
He walks over to the ball, picks it up and starts dribbling. Literally that’s it, just dribbling. Petey dribbles around the three-point line, half court, back under the basket, basically just practicing dribbling between his legs.
LIL PETEY
“Bet y’all didn’t know that I could do this shit, yeah?”
Petey finally steps up to the three-point line and swishes his basket. He holds his shooting arm up in the air.
LIL PETEY
“KOBE!”
After staring right into the camera, he walks up to the ball and starts dribbling again.
LIL PETEY
“Man, today’s been quite the day and this is just what I needed to unwind. Really this week has been something else. I got this upcoming match with Ozy Ozy again, Grand Title opportunity on the line and my mind has just been all over the place. When they told me what the card was and what I would be doing, I had to ask if they put it down right. Like… they said as long as I don’t lose, I get into the Grand Title match at Hell on Earth? So… I guess as long as Ozy doesn’t beat me by pinning me or making me tap out I’m good? I’m hoping that’s what that means. Maybe I can get him to throw me into the crowd again and go fan surfing! That shit was so dope. I think some chick tried to feel me up, though. We gotta watch the tape again and see if she was cute or not."
Petey shuts his mouth realizing that he's gotten way off track already. He takes another shot from three and makes it.
LIL PETEY
"I don't even remember how this started Tentacle-Man, but here we are. Before, I won't lie, I was a bit afraid. You're a fucking monster, dawg and I'm not even close to you in size. What really made me realize you're just a person in the ring was the fact that you threw me into a crowd instead of throwing me anywhere else. The crowd caught me and the rest is history now. What I like about my chances is your carelessness. OH SURPRISE, PETEY KNOWS A BIG WORD! Okay, well, it's not that big of a word, but still. You don't really care the result as long as you inflict your pain or make your statement. That's your thing and it seems like you'll take that to the grave almost. How does that benefit me? I have a strong suspicion that you're going to do something that costs you the match, just like last time. The difference now is that you're the only obstacle in my way from getting MY Grand Championship back from that square head's nasty hands. That belt was mine and it got taken away from me. You are the last thing in my way before I get my shot to retrieve it. I know a lot of people don't expect me to get through you and that's okay. Haterz are my motivaterz, just like I always say. I know a lot of people who are rooting for me and have since day one, myself included."
Instead of pulling up from three like he usually does, Petey dribbles the ball into the paint and hits the jelly, the ball bouncing off the backboard and into the net. It bounces off the ground once before he picks it back up and dribbles it up to the perimeter again.
LIL PETEY
"I've spent so much of my time here wasting it thinking that I'm going to be this huge successful rapper instead of focusing on what's happening here and the fact that I've been making BANK! Did you see my recent business exposure? CHEF BOYARDRIP, BABY! We got them Saucy O's and all that in store now and they're selling quick. I was made for this. I was made for entertainment, whether that be rapping, acting, wrestling... whatever. I made my way into this business and while I haven't had the most successful record, I still feel successful. Imma claim that Grand Championship win as legit, even though it was taken from me. I'm a Grand Champion. Literally only like two other people can say that right now. While you, Ozymandias, may have had success elsewhere... what have you done here so far? I've been here since DAY ONE of this place opening. I went from competing, to running the music department, and back again better than ever. I went from losing every single match and getting absolutely squashed to actually competing and racking up some dubs. You feel me?"
Petey pulls up from three again and drains the shot.
LIL PETEY
"Every single show, we do the same song and dance; train, talk shit, perform. It's almost like a rap career when you think about it, too. No matter, it's always the same shit. That's the problem with the business sometimes, or more importantly, the roster's problem. A lot of these lame-o's really don't know how to say some different shit or branch out to a different area. You always see them in the same spot they were before. Y'all see me at The Hip House a lot, but I'm always in a different part of it! We got this big ass place, of course I'mma show it off and do my thing. I still get my shit done, ya know? What do I know, though. I barely even pay attention to half the bitches here because their vibes be WAY off. Just like Ozy here. Sometimes I don't know if his chick is controlling him or what. All I know is he should just sit this one out. Let me get into that Grand Championship Match and reclaim what's rightfully mine. Mark knows it, Indy knows it, we all know it. That belt is mine."
The ball rolls back to Petey's fit and he picks it up and starts dribbling. He drives to the hoop and dunks it pretty hard. Sure, it's not regulation, but what's it to you? He made his point.
