It was a pretty short match by the standard she had gotten herself accustomed to elsewhere, but it was quite draining nevertheless. Emmanuelle, still a relative newcomer to the world of pro wrestling by comparison to her latest opponent, had defeated Scott Oasis, someone much larger and much more experienced. She was sore, she was tired, but she was also about twenty pounds heavier as she carried the Warrior Rising Championship along with her WrestleWorld Shogun Championship away from a press conference set up in the backstage area. As she made her way towards the locker room she received congratulations from some of the backstage workers, the caterers, the ring crew, all the people who did everything possible to keep the Proving Ground show going. It felt strange that people who barely had a word to say beforehand were talking to her, but she took it in stride. All she really wanted was some peace, a hot shower and maybe a hotter date for the evening. As she got to the dressing room at long last, one last well-wisher was standing by with a beer in each hand.
Seiji Suzuki: You know something? I wasn’t expecting you to beat Scott. That’s a hell of a size difference to give up.
Emmy: You know how I feel about things like that, the bigger they are, the stupider they are in most cases. Guys like that don’t think someone so small like me can kick their ass until it’s actually happened.
Seiji: You’re not wrong.
Seiji passes over one of the beers before admiring Emmy’s latest title, nodding in appreciation of the design and more importantly what it means for his client.
Seiji: KAMPAIIIII!!
Emmy: Saluti...
The two saluted each other with their respective beers before taking pretty heavy swigs of them, Seiji nearly emptying his completely.
Seiji: Not bad. Warrior Rising, a perfect fit for you. You’re a warrior that’s rising further and further up the ranks. People still don’t take you as seriously as they should. Not just here but everywhere. You keep winning and you keep winning titles like these, you’re going to be very rich very fast in this line of work. So….what now?
Emmy: Well tonight I have a couple of phone numbers that I got at the hotel and I’m going to have a very, VERY good time tonight. I’ve been a good, nose to the grindstone soldier for a while. I think it’s only fair that I indulged a little bit.
Seiji: No no no, I didn’t mean like that, I’m talkin’ about what are you going to do now that you have the Warrior Rising Championship? What do you want to do now that you have it?
Emmy takes a few moments to peer down at the belt before taking another swig of the beer she was given. She never really had given too much thought to what she would do once she had won the title. She just saw it as another match with a big prize and didn’t quite grasp what the title meant until she actually was holding it in her possession.
Emmy: I didn’t put much thought into it. I saw the match and was able to put what happened in the tournament behind me. I wanted to make my mark in this company with the X-Factor Championship, but now I have a chance to take a title that a lot of people don’t really care or know much about and try to build a legacy and reputation for it. It’s not a super prestigious title, but if I can build up a strong resume with it...who knows? I do want to challenge for other titles too. A girl’s always on the lookout for new pieces of jewelry, know what I mean?
Seiji: Definitely know what you mean. I’m proud of you, Emmy. You know Carlos is too. From where you were just a couple of years ago to standing here now as a double champion, it’s not something that happens every day and you need to enjoy it. Just grow eyes in the back of your head. I wouldn’t be surprised if Oasis comes lookin’ for that belt again. He’s not one to take losses graciously. And now you have a target on your back, not just him but any young buck trying to make a name they’re probably gonna try to bump you off first.
Emmy: I know that much. I’ll be ready for all of that tomorrow. Right now I just want to hit the shower and enjoy the night. This is a surprisingly pretty city, yanno? I don’t get to come to Brazil that often so I want to make sure I enjoy all of it. Thanks for coming by to see me. I know I’m not the easiest to deal with or keep up with but you put up with it anyway.
Seiji: Hey, part of my job! Go get cleaned up, and before you go trying to chase skirts, we’re going out to eat. My treat!
The wrestling world is a very strange place. One minute you’re a relative unknown compared to some of the top people but all it takes sometimes is one victory, one defining moment that gets you noticed and appreciated not just by the fans but your peers and all the people working in the back. People kind of knew who I was before I wrestled Scott a couple of weeks ago for the Warrior Rising Championship. Now they *KNOW* who I am. I used every bit of my strength, speed, power and intestinal fortitude to take this belt and now I’m left wondering what am I to do now? I don’t have a tag partner on a full time basis so going for the tag titles is out of the question. There seems to be some controversy around the Legacy Championship that may need to be sorted out and the X-Factor tournament was a fair enough shake to win that title that didn’t pan out. So, for now, I think it’s probably for the best if I settle into my new role in the Warrior Rising Championship slot and not worry about much else for now. Ten minutes, ten minutes was all it took for me to slide into a position of relevancy. Now, I need to build up my legacy on Proving Ground, ten minutes at a time.
The match I’m involved in this week isn’t for a title, it’s not something set up to settle a massive personal grudge but it’s something that I deem VERY, VERY important. Why so? I mean, the match looks weird and innocent enough on paper, doesn’t it? Cadillac Jackson, a guy who I have wrestled and teamed with, Pat The Postman, someone who I think is weird as hell but may prove useful in a match like this, are my teammates. Now, when I’m drafting names of people out to be teammates would either of these two be my first choice? Absolutely not. That’s not a knock to them as people or their athletic ability, but I can think of about 50 different men and women I would probably feel more philosophically attuned with to do this wrestling stuff. But that’s the hand I’m dealt. The Soundcloud boys and Oasis are our opponents. Hey TT, you’re a nice and insightful guy that isn’t too big a pain in the ass, but the company you keep is an eyesore. Saucy boy is a plague against my ears everytime I hear him talk or do anything that resembles rapping. And Scott Oasis?
Heh, not the debut you had envisioned for yourself, was it? Getting put on your ass by a woman less than half your size. But like I said, you’re used to getting your ass kicked by women so why did you think it was going to go any differently with me. You are trying to mold these two boys in your image and honestly they could do much better for role models and sugar daddies than you. Yeah, you’re a legend and former world champion, you own a company I work for, blah blah blah. But when we step through these ropes to fight, things like seniority go flying out the window. I told you when you tried to fuck with me before that I was trained by one of the people who knew you best. Did you not think I would have a game plan for you? Hips don't lie and neither do these hands, homie.
This isn’t a title match, but it’s been deemed something of a “Headliner”. As a new champion that is by far the brightest burning star of anyone involved in this match, I’m not going to allow myself to be distracted by the unimportant things. If anyone involved in this match is eager for a go for my new piece of jewelry, now's the time to come forward if you wanna scrap. Just be forewarned, if you’re gonna call me out: say that shit with your chest or just say less. We’re in a new era on Proving Ground and a new, bright chapter of the Warrior Rising Championship. A rising tide raises all ships, or so I’ve been told. All of you should consider yourselves lucky to be riding on the waves that Emmanuelle is making possible for you this summer. That said, as generous as I am with my time and star power, all of you should be well aware by now to follow the Platinum Rule: DO NOT FUCK WITH EMMANUELLE.
Yung Sauce is going to learn, TJ Thompson should already know and Scott Oasis looks like a caveman with poor comprehension skills so he may need a remedial course. I’m generous with my time, boys. I’m also generous with these hands if you three or anyone else wants to feel froggy and leap into the title picture.
New Champion.
New Belt.
Same old Emmy.
Same predictable outcome: Another W for the Princess of the Palisades and her team. And there’s nothing that anyone on the other side can do to stop it.
