Mafia - A Basic Intro to the Game

Welcome one, welcome all the fun and frantic world of Mafia! This is an open invite to anyone interested, experience literally doesn't matter so you can be seasoned or you can be fresh as. All can play!
What is Mafia you ask? Well let me tell you, it's a good ol' 'whodunnit' we play on the boards, whereby we try to find out who the killers are from a select group of people. Typically in a game there is a good side (Town, Villagers, Goodies) and a bad side (Mafia, Villains, Baddies). The flavor and theme of the games can change but ultimately it's always the same deal - if Mafia kill off all the goodies, they win. If Town can identify and eliminate the baddies, they win!
Progress is made by Voting other players. The classic term used in these games is 'lynching' however let's change that moving forward. Any suggestions for this term are welcome. Each day phase the players will Vote for another player they think to be sus (Among Us?) and when that person hits the minimum amount of votes needed, they are out. We reveal who they were, what ability they had if any, and their alignment. Then we move to Night.
Not all but some players get abilities and actions they can perform. This can go from silencing another player to blocking their actions, to swapping or even controlling another player. The roles can make the game extra fun and add that next layer of confusion and suspicions to an already busy game. And like always, Mafia get a very special skillset - outside of the board all Mafia members will be allowed to speak to one another via a private group. No other players are allowed to do this, so it gives them a huge advantage. Secondly, and the main spice of this game, Mafia players can kill at night! So if things go to plan, another player ends up on the chopping block with each night phase.
A sample flow of the game goes like this;
- during the Day phase everyone speaks and gets to know each other. If this is themed then you can be IC or if not you can simply just chat away. This is all a matter of figuring out who is the most sus out of your group if you can. Vote for anyone suspicious.
- after a set amount of time/ when the minium amount of Votes are met, we move to Night phase where everybody is silent and the board is locked. This is where you can send in your actions for the night, if applicable, and if you are on the Mafia team you can choose a player to kill.
- again after a short amount of time is passed we move back to Day and the death is revealed, if any. And we start the finger pointing game all over again!

THE RULES
1. There are two phases to the game;
- the Day phase where everybody is able to speak and message on the boards. Typically this lasts anywhere from 48-72 hours depending on the size of the game.
- the Night phase where you can use your abilities (if applicable). More on that later.
2. During the Night phase you will be asked by the Game Moderator if you wish to use your abilities. If you fail to get your actions in on time, we will move on past (think of an RP deadline). All your Night actions *must be kept confidential*, by means of a DM with your Game Moderator.
3. Speaking about the game, contact other players or doing anything related to the game outside of the boards is strictly forbidden. This is seen as cheating and all involved parties will be insta-killed from the game. Mafia is entitled to a private chat either on the boards or Discord, which is standard for every game. Some other abilities allow outside communication also (Masons, Neighbourhood etc.), these are the only exception.
4. Quoting *anything* from private DMs or group chats is punishable by insta-death. This is a game of suspicions and playing the players, copy/pasting hints or answers just ruins the fun of it all.
5. Editing posts is not allowed. If you see that you made a mistake then you can quote your own post and used 'Edit By Way of Post' (EWBOP) to fix that mistake. Whatever you hit send on must stay as is. Editing is punishable by, yep you guessed it, instant death!
6. BOLD your votes, so that the Game Moderator can see them clearly. If they are buried and missed it might mean life or death for someone. In return the Game Moderator usually colors their own font, or uses a different style to acknowledge posts were read (my preference is to 'Like' posts I've read so I know where I last left off).
7. This is a GAME. A fun friendly GAME. Whatever you think of another person we are just basing where our suspicions lie on what is said and done within the confirms of the game. Don't get personal, don't attack others, don't take it to heart if you are voted or killed. It's poker. It's Cluedo. It's Among Us. It's all just a game, so have fun and be nice!
