(Our scene begins downtown in the city of Baltimore, Maryland as we see Scott Oasis getting some exercise at a local rec center. While many of the older people are using the facility for weight training, swimming and indoor tennis with one another, Scott is busy at the basketball court playing a round of games with. We’re mid-competition as it’s a group of six kids working against Scott, who is aggressively hogging the ball as they jockey for position to get to him.)
Scott Oasis: Oh, you kids want the ball? You want the ball, huh? Come get it then, stop playing around and take it!
(Scott Oasis swerves around one of the children looking to steal the ball from him, dribbling to half court and pulling off a shot which lands perfectly.)
Scott Oasis: Ohhhhh! Another three pointer to put on the board! TT, pass the rock back to me! We’re going again; hopefully this time you guys can give me more trouble.
Timmy Twoshoes: I don’t think this game is fair at all, Mr. Oasis!
(Young Timmy tosses the ball to Scott, looking annoyed as Oasis lets out a laugh.)
Scott Oasis: I am taking time out of my very busy schedule to give back to my community and involve you kids in something special. A history making moment! I am mere days away from teaching this new generation of wrestlers what a true worker really is and you punks are helping me out with my training. This is a privilege! An honor! Don’t get hung up on the small things, Timmy. Enjoy the moment! And anyway, this game is FAIR! You all have the opportunity to do better than me, you just have to step your game up! Be quicker! Be stronger! Be TOUGH! Let’s go!
(Scott starts dribbling the ball again and takes off! One of the boys closes in to engage him, getting crossed up and left to fall hard on the gym floor for his troubles.)
Scott Oasis: One step behind, son!
(Scott is accosted again by a second boy as he actually succeeds in knocking the ball out of Scott’s hand! The ball bounces a few feet across the court as it is a scramble to recover it! The kid almost succeeds in gaining control, but Scott catches up and elbows him in the face! Down he goes as Scott gets the ball back.)
Scott Oasis: So close, but I guess you didn’t want it enough! Who thinks they can do better than that!
(Scott does a turn around across the court and shoulder checks a third child, nearly turning him inside out! In quick succession to that he uses one hand to shove the fourth incoming kid to the ground!)
Scott Oasis: Yall are swarming are me! I feel the pressure!
(Scott Oasis rushes down the court! The fifth kid runs straight ahead to meet him! Scott sidesteps to the left and kicks his leg out! The kid falls forward and goes skidding across the grind.)
Scott Oasis: …..And all that pressure does is make me give it right back your way. You can’t back a professional against the wall. You learned that the hard way, Jimmy. Yikes, that scrape! Walk it off and try again! Let’s see what you got, Timmy!
Timmy Twoshoes: No, no, no! I think I’m going to forfeit!
Scott Oasis: FORFEIT!? NOPE! That’s what’s wrong with you kids! You think you all have what it takes to be a big time athlete but you get yourselves gassed up by living in your little bubbles and accepting participation trophies. You don't know how to operate against actual competition. To you this is all fun, sunshine and rainbows. You don't know failure. You don't know adversity. You just treat your craft like a game and hide yourselves from any conflict, only ever sticking your head out if it's to receive constant praise. Your generation can’t compete with the traditional athlete. The class of sportsmen who actually had hair on their chest and were willing to shed blood, sweat and tears. Everyone’s too scared to be knocked down and learn from their mistakes, they’d rather block out any ways of improvement and blindly act like they’re some finished product. That’s how you end up like your hero Lonzo Ball, Timmy! A big headed bum who ends up choking once he leaves the minor leagues and has to fight against the big dogs. Better yet, that’s how you get Euan Hill! A fat boy who was getting pats on the back for beating some bums on the independents and because he never actually had to face the heat he convinced himself he’s a tough guy. His soft environment of an echo chamber allowed him to think he had all of the polish he needed. He was the peak ball player in his mind! So he pivots into wrestling and what does he do?
Timmy Twoshoes: I don't know ---
(Before T.T. can even finish his sentence, Scott Oasis charges full speed ahead like a raging bull. Scott bucks up at Timmy, launching him into the basketball post! With nobody there to guard him, Scott shows an impeccable vertical leap as he slam dunks the net!)
Scott Oasis: He had his weaknesses get exposed by yours truly! Someone who is actually battle tested! Who came up in a locker room full of the dirtiest, grimiest, roughest and most insane men on the planet! Men who were out to hurt people! Who didn’t care what it took to get what they wanted! They’d sell their own mother to get some time out in front of the crowd and show what they’re about. It wasn’t a bunch of play wrestlers running around playing grab ass. It wasn’t a bunch of angsty teens acting “too cool” to show reverence to the veterans. The kind of men Euan Hill would probably flinch at and want to cross the road if they ever crossed on the street because they weren't some limp wristed ninnies who want to eat pizza and hop on Nintendo all day on their downtime. They dedicated every hour of their day to their craft and practically ate nails for breakfast. You go back thirty years and check out the athletes you praise on TV, you'd see well trained and disciplined men with bodies made of granite; a far cry from the walking tub of silly puddy that gets rolled out as one of Project Honor's top stars. I was molded by people who wanted to be recognized as legitimate. Something Euan will never be. He was molded by the goofy, the lazy, the disrespectful. Those who'd rather operate as "aesethetics" and media personas than be seen as top tier industry figures. And he takes that mentality and presents it to kids like you, Timmy. Kids who just like him, won't know what to do when they're faced with a powerful man with any athletic know-how and in your face aggression. Look at the results you yielded by following in his footsteps. You all get up and keep coming for me. Trying to outdo me on the court. Constantly reapplying yourself in disbelief. Never changing. Hoping eventually you'll luck out and get one over on me. But what happens? You never get to run with the ball. All you did is end up nipping at my heels. That's the Euan Hill story. A story I want to keep you all from going through! They say the definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over and hoping for different results. Well the world of sports has gone insane to the point guys like Euan keep trying to compete against me, trying to show how good they are because their coddled teachers let them think that. They look for confirmation, not change. He'll never get confirmation of being better than me though. Because it's not true. The only way he'll ever even come close is if he dusts himself off and instead of doing what works in this pussified candyland of delusion he's settled in...wakes up and follows my ways. Taking notes from The Iceman. Do the same, Timmy. Doing otherwise is going to keep getting you hurt like this. My upcoming match with Euan isn't about him and I like he says, he's just an instrument for me to use in my teachings. A prop for the rest of the class. As I drill him into the mat for that one, two, three yet again....I'll be drilling some actual work ethic into your skulls. A new crop of Warrior's will rise in the wrestling scene, but they won't be represented by Euan. They'll come from under my tutelage.
(Scott Oasis looks around at the still recovering kids, dribbling the ball yet again with an excited expression.)
Scott Oasis: So who wants to get up and give it another go? Come on ladies, hustle!
(The six boys all groan in pain, unable to even answer. Scott shows little awareness for their injuries, continuing to gesture for them to rise back up as we fade away from the scene.)
