Blue gaze drifts towards the window, where rain patters against it soundlessly. It’s quiet, too quiet for her liking. One hand reaches out, pinpointing a single drop, as if to keep watch over it in the mental race. She stands up on the bench area attached to the window, being short was not fun. Especially at a time like this. Fingers shift, choosing a new raindrop as she follows it with her finger. Other raindrops have already passed this itty, bitty raindrop she has chosen. But, here she is. Still cheering it along as if her life depended upon it. As the itty, bitty raindrop reached the bottom of the window, a gentle squeal of excitement spilled past plush lips. She had almost forgotten that Jason was on the phone, FaceTime call still ongoing as it had been for a few hours now. She was just thankful to hear his voice right now.
“Just what on Earth are you doing, darling?” The sound of his voice had caused soft laughter to spill from her lips as she hopped down from where she stood. Lips and nose scrunching up slightly as she took a seat where she once stood. She tapped her bottom lip with her free hand, index finger tapping at her lip thoughtfully, before she turned the camera over towards the large window. The rain was still coming down and she smiled softly, motioning towards the raindrops that still slid down the window peacefully. The calm before the storm. The quiet in the still of the night.
“Well, I picked the smallest raindrop in the race. It didn’t win, but it tried its best.” She furrowed her brows slightly, lips forming into a soft pout. “Look, here.” She climbs back up into the window sill, standing right on the edge as she motions with one of her hands. “Pick a raindrop. Literally any single raindrop. But, it has to be all the way up here!” She stretches out, reaching as far towards the top as she can. “Or else, it’s kinda’ cheating ‘cause it’s supposed to be a race.” She narrows her eyes slightly from where she stands, glancing at him momentarily before he raises a brow. “Don’t look at me like that. Could you humor me? Just for a second?” She pouts, bottom lip poking out slightly.
“Okay, okay. Don’t give me the pout, angel. Just… What about that one?” He points towards a general direction, where she uses a single index finger to point towards where she believed he had pointed. “This oneeee?” She draws out the E sound, gentle chuckle falling from Jason. “Yes, that one.” He nods as she stands up once more, holding the phone in her free hand as she follows the raindrop with her opposite hand. It races down the window, slowly at first, before passing a few other drops to catch the lead. “Hey! Look, it’s going super fast!” She continues tracing with one finger until the raindrop disappears past the edge of the window.
“Winner, winner! Would you like to claim your prize, sir?” She grinned cheekily, hopping down from where she once stood, to plop down into the too big bed. She was practically swimming in the fluffy blankets of the bed. “Claim my prize? I already claimed the best prize when I picked you.” The words leave him effortlessly, but it never ceases to make her bottom lip jut out into a soft pout, heart swimming with pure happiness. “You’re so cheesy. But, I know you mean every word. Hey, I gotta’ go for a bit. But, I’ll call you back later, okay?” She presses a couple of kisses to the screen, grinning brightly once she finishes. “Love you!” She hangs up shortly after, only after he’s said his goodbyes as well. Gentle sigh falling from her lips as she collapses back into the bed after setting her cellphone aside.
Fingers pull out her laptop, adjusting herself so she’s propped up against the pillows behind her. Making sure she’s in the proper frame of the video, she soon presses the record button, once ready. Laptop positioned onto the bedside table as her thumb moves from over the lens of the webcam that records her. It takes her a few moments to actually realize things are rolling, until she can see the blinking red light in one corner of the laptop. Gentle gasp falling from her lips as she blinks slightly, backing away a bit.
“Hi! There we are. Um, sorry…” She grimaces, lowering her voice a bit after realizing she was probably a bit too loud. “Well, here I am. Project: Honor. After heavy debating and holding off on things, I finally decided to cross that line. Especially after some words of encouragement from a few faces around here.” She can’t help the smile that crosses her face as she thinks about both Jason and Eli, who had given her just the push she needed to sign her name on that dotted line. “Now, since I’m finally here. I think it’s about time you all get a proper introduction. Savannah Sunshine is the name, wrestling is the game.” She lets out a laugh, one hand raising slightly, fingers wiggling as she gives a slight wave towards the camera.
“Let’s see… I’ve been around for the past five… almost six years now. Well, kind of.” She grimaces, brows furrowing as she thinks back to the period of time someone else had control over her life. “Anyway, I’m not the same person I was before. When something… someone… changes your entire life? Takes over where you should have been stronger? That kind of thing seriously messes you up.” She pauses, wrapping one of the fluffy blankets around her. As if it could shield her from all of the bad things. “I had no choice but to truly grow up. I had to stop looking at the world through rose-colored glasses and wake up and smell the coffee. I had to step back from idolizing false Gods and do what I had to do to make sure no one ever forgot my name.” She paused, licking over her lips in trepidation as she shifted uncomfortably in the spot she sat in.
“When you start having these kinds of dark thoughts, when you start changing for the worst… Sometimes, something leeches onto that darkness. Feeds off of your pain, your anger, your frustration…” She has to take a moment to collect herself, seemingly paler than usual, as she tries to ground herself to the here and now. Taking a few moments to take a few deep breaths. “Sorry… I’m trying to explain, really. But, nothing is ever that simple. It started with the frustration, never feeling like I was good enough. Then, it all seemed to come to a boiling point.” She pauses, gritting her teeth together out of pure frustration.
“At least, that’s what she had said. That’s what she had told me the night she decided to take over my life. The night she had decided what I needed and what I didn’t need any longer. She was this… this monstrous beast of a woman. But, she wasn’t really a woman. She was… something far more deadlier… far more dangerous. Even now, after all the time that’s passed since I managed to get my life back… I can’t shake the feeling that she’s lurking somewhere.” She sighed audibly, shaking slightly as she brushed her fingers through her hair. Trying to steady herself as she licked over her lips.
“It’s hard to shake the constant feeling knowing there’s still a piece of what was left dead and buried so many months ago. No matter how I try to escape from it, it’s always there. Always reminding me that I failed. I failed my friends. I failed my family. I failed the people that mean the most to me and… and it still hurts.” The last words come out in a pained whisper, swallowing the lump that forms in her throat as she swallows thickly. “I can’t afford to make that mistake again. I cannot afford to let the darkness swallow me entirely and rip apart everything I’m working so hard to put back together. That’s why I’m here. Because I need to keep fighting. I need to keep showing everyone that the light outweighs the darkness. Even if I’m not the same girl I was before. Even if the old Savannah Sunshine is long gone. That doesn’t mean I’ve ever forgotten my course. I won’t be led astray. Not ever again.”
She takes a moment to really cement herself to the here and now, remembering why exactly she’s even sitting here wasting time away. “My first match is… something. I’m facing off against… Pat The Postman?” She pauses, blinking slightly. “Huh… Anyway…. The other half of this shindig is Tyler Bradford. Two faces I am unfamiliar with, but faces that are about to become very familiar with me.” A grin finds its way across her lips once more, a bit more pep in her attitude as she brushes off the previous mood. “I’m not here to sit on the sidelines. I’m not here to be just another face in the crowd. I’m not here to simply be another pretty face or someone who does frick all.” She lets out a breath of air, huffing softly.
“I want everyone to know who I am. I want everyone to know that I’m not backing down from a single challenge. What happens in this triple threat? This is just a taste of what I am capable of.” She stretches out, legs crossing over one another. “By the end of this match, everyone will have a good and easy first impression of Savannah Sunshine. Especially when my hand is raised in victory. See you soon, fellas.” She shoots a cheeky wink towards the camera, shutting the recording down, as the scene fades to black.
