Hell on Earth was but a night ago. While she enjoyed her late night title celebration which had her carried around like a victorious deadweight potato sack in between awful yet satisfying meals and chocolate snacks, that was behind her and in the morning she found herself heading back home. Hours had passed since her return which was a welcomed one as, while she was alone, she missed being in her world. Following her studies, she took the time to clean the whole 4,000 square foot plus house despite the soreness. An unkempt home was the first sign of lost control in her mind and having gotten it back recently, she refused to let it slip. It was after finishing the rest of the home that Zane went to the ‘Sanctuary of Accomplishment’ a smirk on her face as she added four more achievements to the already cramped room of championship belts, trophies and medals, both in wrestling and out. Organized by profession, she took to the displays and cleaned them while gently placing her latest acquisitions in their rightful spots. Looking around the room, Zane couldn’t help but sigh despite the feeling of satisfaction that enveloped her just moments ago.
“It appears as though I’ll have to make another expansion to this room soon.”
Suddenly an alarm on her phone went off and she was quick to stop it. Her focus then shifted to her phone’s Chrome browser where she checked the Project Honor company website as they were set to reveal the next card for Proving Ground. More importantly this would be Zane’s first show as champion and she wanted to see what kind of test they had lined up for her to dominate. Now granted she always took each match seriously whether she’s in it or not as it serves the purpose of scouting future opponents. Tonight however she just rolled her eyes silently blah blahing her way through the card until she spotted her name. What caught her eye next was not any opposition, but the match type. A triple threat tag team match. Seeing this caused a raised eyebrow and a huff of clear frustration.
“A triple threat..tag..team..match? A triple threat tag team match?! How is that supposed to benefit me at all?!”
Noticing herself on the verge of a verbal tirade, Zane took a second to calm herself. This is something the old her would do. She would complain and see to it that not only her opponents, but her partner as well would feel the wrath of the crescent moon maiden dissatisfied. In her eyes, only Misaki was worthy of being her partner and even that was by design as her forced best friend knew who was in charge. Showing maturity meant opening the mind to different paths. Perhaps this could prove a good move anyway.
“Wait hold on a second. Maybe Project Honor has a budding tag team division and knowing the history I have with Misaki in the Skylight Queens, they want me to lead the charge? Being a double champion doesn’t sound too bad the more I think about it. Thing is though...Misaki isn’t in Project Honor. Hell I’m not even sure if she’s cleared yet after what happened in our last match.”
Zane couldn’t help but frown at the thought of what happened to Misaki in their last match together. Even though she had formally...no. Shaking her head, Zane chased away lingering thoughts and again focused on her phone.
“Nevermind that. So who do I have to beat and who do I have to carry on the way to another win and potential tag team glory? This better be worth my time.”
Finally giving the match a good look she saw the first team being AJ Timberberg and Lil’ Petey and rolled her eyes.
“First poor Shouta gets shackled to a match with this joker and now I’m stuck dealing with him and his puke pop buddy. Ugh did I piss someone off in management?”
Huffing in frustration and annoyance once again she eyed the next team. Two of the newcomers Jonny C and Jay Vaughan. Upon hearing of their signing, as well as the others, she did a little bit of precautionary research since her mind at the time was mainly focused on her championship match and competitions. While they weren’t bad, she also didn’t find herself all that impressed and doubted that a deeper look would change her mind.
“I guess I can deal with those quasi-talented buffoons for the eight minutes it’ll take me to get this match over with. Sadly this won’t be a match where they get to look all that good as I don’t plan on playing around.”
Zane took a deep breath before looking over who would be her partner in the match. Seeing the name made her eyes nearly pop out and fall to the floor.
“Oh!”
Her surprise was a pleasant one as a smile came across her face followed by some giggling.
“This...is going to be so much fun! We are going to freaking wreck these four hacks! I love it. Oohh I need to call Misaki and tell her!”
Giving herself a second to giggle some more, a bit of color filling her cheeks, Zane then stood facing the door. Racing out of the room and down the stairs, Zane went over to her laptop and started up a video chat with her long time friend, and aside from ones recently gained, her only one. As usual the two chatted much like schoolgirls would, dishing on their latest adventures and sharing thoughts on others. Of course Zane had to boast about becoming the first Warrior Rising Champion and this was politely countered with a dig at her ego which garnered the usual exaggerated look of disbelief. When the topic changed to her upcoming match however, there was more than a bit of unease and tension despite Zane doing her best to talk it up and show she was genuinely happy about it. It was understandable how Misaki would feel. There was already an unspoken strain and this seemed to highlight it. Misaki eventually showed why she was always the more mature despite the two being the same age and gave her blessing. Before the two called an end to their conversation, a question was asked to Zane that caused the boisterous champion to grow pale.
“彼を信用しますか?(Do you trust him?)”
She never answered. Instead she shifted the talk to the two saying their goodbyes. Zane then attended to her dinner roast which was just done preparing in the oven. As she began slicing it with precision, the question began to dance around in her head. While she was able to continue her nightly routine without trouble, she still couldn’t get rid of the question in her mind. Zane even resorted to watching nonsensical videos to distract herself before bed but none of it worked. She began to find each breath becoming heavier, even each blink. Why was this bothering her so much? Was it really the question that was overwhelming, or was it the answer that worried her?

In the time between the initial announcement for Proving Ground and where she was today, Zane and MYOJIN found as much time as they could within their schedules to meet up and train together. Though both knew deep down that this match was an assured victory, they still had the competitive drive and desire to make the match as crisp as one can be. Neither knew if this was the start of a true tag team run but they both cared to make sure they were prepared for that road. Hours were spent going over drills, getting acquainted with their respective styles, then meshing the two together. They even worked on a few double team maneuvers they were sure would dazzle the masses. Of course in between this they joked around, shared laughs and even a few solemn moments, as those who openly express themselves tend to do. These were moments Zane cherished both professionally and personally. It was strange, having something like this happen. A bond being forged, not forced. It was nice. When she would return home, for a second she felt weightless and gleeful, then the question asked itself over again in her mind, right on cue with the rest of her irritatingly budding thoughts.
————
A slow fade in showed the familiar sight of the back room in Zane’s home. This time however, instead of a small glimpse at her many instruments, the focus was on her gorgeous polished ebony Kawai GL-10 Baby Grand Piano and with good reason. The keys were dancing to the beautiful melody of Yoko Shimomura’s “The Silent Forest” being played by an entranced Zane, dressed in a floor length cerulean mermaid silhouette dress. Seamlessly she transitioned to Raúl Di Blasio’s “Otoñal”, a soft smile beginning to show. Before long though, the last note was played, and with it, the eyes of Zane opened. She turned herself ever so slightly to meet the camera’s gaze, hands daintily placed on her lap, her smile still present.
“Oh dear, it appears as though I got lost in the music for a moment and missed my cue. Or did I? Perhaps it was a clever ploy to give a tiny preview for the sold out drive in crowd set to see me at the Drive-In OC, and let others know what they’re missing out on until my next date is revealed. Of course I could have chosen one of the many other instruments they’ll get to see me play or lend my vocals. Then again this could have been done to serve a more wrestling related purpose such as me showing off once again, much like I did at Hell on Earth. Now, no matter the case, I won’t ramble on about my victory too long because that is such a tired practice. I do however have the right as your first ever Warrior Rising Champion to reflect for a second. Everything I predicted came true. Each of my opponents played their part and ultimately the match soared to incredible heights thanks to yours truly. I took control of the situation and as a result showed a bit more of my potential, completing step one of my plan when it comes to Project Honor and the wrestling world as a whole. Now a fresh crop of talent has come to Project Honor and I find myself faced off against a couple of them, along with a couple of...let’s call them miscreants for now. This is of course happening in a ‘Headliner Triple Threat Tag Team Match’ which is just great though to be fair it should be the main event.”
A soft chuckle followed Zane’s words but she was quick to smile once more, as if conveying a message of sincerity before continuing.
“Under every circumstance aside from the one I have been placed in, that last statement would have thinly veiled sarcasm behind it, save for the main event part. That is something I’m always serious about since it’s where I know I belong. Deserved status aside, I am actually excited about this match which surprises me. It’s been a while since I have felt good about a tag team match, or even had one considering..hmm I’ll just leave that alone for the moment. Right now the focus is on my next victory at Proving Ground. Oh Zane, how can you be so confident? How do you know you’re going to win? One, have you seen me? Two, have you seen my partner? Case closed. Just for a bit of fun though, as someone who cherishes education, I will happily school you in detail as to why neither of the other two teams stand a chance.”
Zane gleefully claps her hands together before placing them back on her lap, a sly grin being seen for a moment until the marvel speaks.
“I guess I can start things off with the duo who will be looking to make names of themselves in this match rather than simply being there for a good time and some exposure, Jonny C and Jay Vaughan. Now I will give a simple credit for them showing legitimate interest in furthering their careers and adding to their resume by coming to a big brand that is only going to reach greater heights over time in Project Honor. However, what those two don’t seem to grasp is that Proving Ground has already been determined to not be their night so no matter what they have to say it won’t help them one bit in that ring. Do you really think I’m going to allow my incredible work at Hell on Earth be followed up by a loss at the hands of clowns? No. Do you think MYOJIN would do the same? Absolutely not. We both know what this match has to do and won’t let any other tale be told. I almost feel sorry for them being stuck in this situation, almost being the key word here. You see, I can’t afford to actually feel that emotion because it would be a crack in armor that I have been forging for over ten years now. What I do feel is the desire to continue showing the world who I am on my own terms and to make an example out of those who try to get in my way. To me, that is all the two of you equate to, an attempt at an obstacle. Do you have accolades outside of this company? Sure, but I do too, in and out of the ring. Critics don’t call me a prodigy for nothing. I carry with me so many unseen scars I gladly earned and will do so all over again in the name of my legacy. Hell I add to them each day and Proving Ground will be no different. I’ll only be getting a small scratch but any addition to my body of work, my masterpiece, is another step closer to my destiny.”
A certain mixed look of determination and perhaps anger is shown by the Warrior Rising Champion before another laugh escapes her. She slowly shakes her head and once again looks to the camera with a smile.
“Do forgive me, I’m not sure what came over me for that moment. I suppose you can call it a case of my pure passion slipping out in an unflattering manner. Barring that slip, the message remains the same. You two, while posing the better challenge, are still no match for the alignment of the moon and the star. I’m out to provide more of a case as to why I’m Project Honor’s greatest acquisition and my dear partner is just itching for the chance to amaze the adoring public some more. He’s quite the competitor that one. It’s almost a shame we’re not facing one another. That would be the truest of main events. However, that is a Grand Championship defense in the future. The present sees us on the same side, ready to tackle all as a unit. Who knows? Maybe we can become the first Tag Team Champions in Project Honor, I wouldn’t mind another title to compliment my Warrior Rising one.”
Even being alone in her home, one can feel the genuine confidence that Zane has. The champion offers a quick wink before continuing on with her thoughts.
“Oh that’s right, it’s a triple threat tag team match, therefore I left out one of the two teams. I’m not going to go as far as to call either of them threats though, that would just be silly of me. Oh Zane, you’re doing it again. Such arrogance, has being a champion already gone to your head? No. It’s not wrong to know your worth as a competitor and recognize when it eclipses others. I’m not saying Jay and Jonny are scum. I’m not saying they don’t belong in the ring and will never do anything of merit ever again. I simply know the outcome of this match is all. As I told my partner one time as we were in one of our sparring sessions, I know what I am capable of. After we took the time to get better acquainted, I have an idea of what he is capable of and most importantly for the sake of this match and future ones where we stand on the same side, I know what we can do together. It is quite magical and will only get better, just like the two of us on our own paths. So again, those two can play up their antics, they can spout their respective fluff, in the end, the match will be eight minutes long. It will end in victory for MYOJIN and myself. Their mediocrity will help them to get a highlight or two but that’s it. If anything they should be happy with that before moving on to being gatekeepers to whatever other newbies wish to grace the same company I do.”
A smirk is seen next from the young veteran, but this is stopped by a sigh as she moves on once again.
“Ugh I keep forgetting about the other team in the match. Although I can’t really blame myself considering who they are. It’s bad enough that MYOJIN had to carry Petey in Project Honor’s first big event, now the two of us have to share our first time as a team against the likes of him and AJ I don’t even want to say his last name because it just reeks of twenty five year old cheese. Now unlike Jay and Jonny who are coming into this contest with the hopes of posing a challenge to us, these two are only there to be there. At least try guys, seriously. You don’t know how it makes my skin crawl that there are some people who don’t give their all to this business. Oh but Zane, don’t you take part in careers outside of wrestling? Why yes, yes I do, but I still give my all. I put every ounce of myself to the point where certain things have to be sacrificed and I’m at peace with that because this is what I love. They clearly do not do the same and I will further expose their disrespect when, alongside my partner, I wipe the floor with those fools. Hell if anything, I believe I gave them too much attention already so I’ll stop before I make a sharp turn into a venomous way where I say so much that I’ll make all four cry. That is not my purpose here, I simply want to achieve victory and move on to better things.”
Again the champion shows her smile prior to shifting her focus one more time.
“There is one more person I need to address though, that being my partner in this match. This isn’t easy for me to say but when I do so, know and cherish the meaning behind it.”
Taking in a deep breath, Zane closes her eyes. As they open and display a person not yet seen by the masses fully, she speaks softly.
“あなたを信用します。(I trust you.)”
Before any more was said, or any further emotion shown, Zane’s expression turned to an unfamiliar one as she turned her body away from the camera, eyes focused solely on her piano once more. With a simple snap of her fingers, the feed cut to black.
