We open with a few shots of large crowds from past events that took place at the O2 in the recent past. The crowds are as enthusiastic as ever, and noticeably massive. The pictures become more and more zoomed out, slowly growing and growing so that individual people become dots, pixels in the pictures.
So many people before me have come to the O2 Arena before me to perform, and many more have come before me to sit or stand in the bleachers to watch art, music, sport, history. But, if you really think about it?
Starting from an overhead shot of the arena, we gradually expand until the arena can no longer be seen. From here, we see footage of London, and some of its landmarks, such as Big Ben, the River Thames, and Buckingham Palace.
The O2 Is just one location in one of the most important, one of the busiest, one of the most powerful cities in the world. This city isn’t just important to the history of Londoners. This city isn’t just important to the history of the people of England. This city is important to the history the entire world.
The next bit of footage showcases and focuses on the world famous Ferris Wheel, The London Eye.
The world watches what happens in London. The world listens to whatever London might say. This is the heart of one of the world’s greatest empires. It still stands. There may be more independence among the colonies and it’s called the Commonwealth now but it stands. London watches right back. The most influential people in the world have stood up and spoken words that have shaken the course of history. New York may be the city that never sleeps, London? It never even lays down. There’s always something happening. The game is always afoot.
We see a quick little time lapse of a busy, crowded street, through the day and through the night.
As of 2021, the London population is said to stand at NINE MILLION, THREE HUNDRED FOUR THOUSAND. This doesn’t even include the massive number of tourists that pass through to see the sights.
We see a map of London that transitions to an overhead shot of a massive crowd of people, in contrast to the earlier arena crowds they zoom in gradually more and more.
How is anyone supposed to stand out in a crowd like that?
The zooming and thinning of the crowd continues until it’s revealed that Eli Atlas is standing among the crowd. He looks into the camera before it fades to black.
We hear Eli seemingly pacing, and we can hear the clattering of objects in a central point, wood, steel, more wood. Finally, the scene opens up. There are kendo sticks laying on the floor, wooden tables, one to the right, and one to the left, a couple of chairs upon the floor. Eli can be seen walking into shot and setting up one of the steel chairs in the centre of it all. He picks up two other chairs and propped them up at either side as he sits in the one in the center of everything. There’s even a ladder set up in the near background. He takes a moment to survey his work before glancing up at the camera. He laughs, leaning back a bit.
Thought I’d put something together, just to fit the occasion, y’know? Anyways, I’ll be quick about this. There’s no need for me to take up more time talking now than I will at the Dioxide, right?
When we spoke last, I said to you all that I would be a patient man. That I would pay my dues before I stepped up and took swings. Here’s a thing about me too, though. I’m not going to look a gift horse in its mouth. Do I need to grow? Can I get better? Hell yeah. If the folks up top come to me and want to give me opportunities, am I going to turn them down? Of course the fuck not. So, I find myself in a battle royal for the Ascension Championship.
Atlas extends his left hand, holding up three fingers to the camera.
See, this would be match number three for yours truly in Project. Two out of three aren’t singles matches, two of the three are of the hardcore variety. I may still be a patient man but life? It comes at you fast sometimes. I came to Project: Honor for a chance, I came for an opportunity. If the powers that be in P:H want to keep putting me to trial and error by fire, let them. A few burns are a few lessons learned. Y’all might not know who I am yet. To you, a face in a crowd of four. I for one believe that everyone has what it takes to stand out from a crowd. In fact, let me just take a few moments to say a few words to my competitors. I see you three, individually.
The battle royal participants’ renders individually come on screen one at a time. First? Amber Payne.
Ladies first, right? Plus I know that you probably are going to gun for me first. You’re a capable fighter and you were no squash. Hunt someone else, this game ends in an L for you, just like last time.
Next, Zach Tyler.
Zach, caught a bit of your triple threat. Let me say, you did pretty damn well. You didn’t win though, did you? Plus I mean. “Mr. Anarchy!” This match should be right up your alley. Fifteen minutes, chaos, every weapon you could ever dream of. You’ve got one hell of a mean streak. You’ve got all in your favour. Everything is, except that there is order, there are rules-or at least one. Three people have to lose.
Next up, Daniel “Mr.” Horror.
Oh goodness, this match, this stipulation, it’s got your name written all over it, doesn’t it? I’m sure that your version of a wet dream is just thinking up, imagining, picturing in your mind all the twisted, grotesque, disgusting…
Eli lets out a quick sigh.
Fine, it’s right there- horrifying ways to torture everyone who comes in your path. I was so glad to discover that you knew about mythology, I was getting a little worried people didn’t get the reference when I took on that name. To be fair, I tried not to spell it out for anyone too much. I figured people knew, or would learn about eventually. Daniel, I have failed before, I’ve stumbled before, I’ve disappointed before. I have a simple question for you. What about you? How are you going to cope when your mystique fades away? When I look you in the eye and you see no fear looking back at you. What happens when you lose the hardcore match. What happens when the very thing that defines who you are is the thing that beats you? The heavens and the Earth will still be here. What will be left of you?
Finally, we return to shot to see a close up of Eli.
Me? My face? It’ll be the face of the last one standing.
Eli puts his hand up to black out the camera and bring us to a close.
