The early sun shone seeped through the windows of the Kuromiya family gym. An average California morning, getting rather close to noon. While the place was usually opened at these hours, MYOJIN's brother- Satoshi- had allowed him to use the gym as a private place to train for the day, he had even given him the keys. The Shining Star was more than grateful for his older brother's generosity, as it was the perfect location to train with his tag partner for the upcoming Proving Grounds- the inaugural Warrior Rising Champion, Zane., or as he knew her, Emiko.
They were finishing up as they practiced their mat grappling. The blonde stood in front of his partner. “So, you know that you're smaller than most- and therefore not the strongest, BUT, you can use that to your advantage: Your speed and nimbleness. I'm bigger than you, so show me how you'd take me down.”
Looking her partner up and down, the blue haired young woman tapped her right index finger against her chin a couple times before lowering it.
“Well taking all cheating out of the equation, I’d probably try to attack you from the top since you got a decent base, and chopping would take too long. As long as I can hang on, you’ll fade. Or…”
Before she would continue, Zane raced up to MYOJIN and hopped up, hooking her legs around his neck and gripping tight onto his left arm, twisting her body and using leverage to bring him down. MYOJIN yelped and landed on his back with a light grunt. She was quick to let go though and rolled back onto her knees. “I could use the element of surprise!” She could help giggling.
“Seriously though, I have to use my own body for leverage and either grab hard or strike fast. Being smaller than everyone can be rough but have its perks.”
He sat up and rubbed his back. Thankfully, they had padding. But as she stood, he grinned. “Two could play that game.”
MYOJIN quickly performed a spinning sweep kick to take Zane off her feet.
Now landing on her back, Zane sat up and rubbed it a little.
“That’s not fair! I was all nice and then you snuck up like some crook type criminal. Terrible.” Zane could barely get the last word out before laughing. “The best part though is that you actually surprised me. I like that. Just don’t be silly next time and leave a body part open.”
“And you shouldn't get too cocky.” He replied with a laugh of his own, leaning back on the mat with his hands behind his head. This would be the first match for them both after Hell On Earth, and they had pretty good chemistry it seemed- though fighting two other tag teams seemed like a daunting task, he was up to the challenge- and he knew she was too.
But something was… a little depressing to him. While he was happy for Zane becoming a champion so soon, MYOJIN thought he would've been one by now too; the first X-Factor Champion. He could've been, he should've been, but he wasn't. All thanks to a little distraction.
He looked over to Zane and sat up on his elbows, “So.. What's it like having that big, shiny, belt? Have any idea of what you want to do now?”
Zane pondered both questions for a moment and then nodded, as if in understanding. “I could say it’s just another title for me. I’ve won a lot, many on smaller scales, but still it’s a familiar feeling. However, I’d be lying. This belt proves a point that I can do all this on my own and that my years I gave up weren’t for nothing. As far as what I want to do? Well first, I want to eat! Then, win the other titles.” She offered a quick wink but her expression shifted to a more serious one. “It’s going to happen Shouta. Don’t overthink the past, it’ll haunt you, trust me. I’ve made that mistake too many times, professionally…” Zane let out a sigh. “And especially personally.”
He simply snorted in response. “Is it that obvious what I'm thinking about?” MYOJIN spoke with a lighthearted voice, but that quickly died down. “It's just… I don't know. I could have beaten Caden, I've done it before, if it weren't for Colt. I could've beaten him too. That asshole has been harassing us both- It'd just feel great to beat him for that X-Factor Championship, to just finally shut that obsessive simp up.”
He sighed, “I know, I know.. I'm getting too ahead of myself. We gotta win this triple threat tag match first.”
“I’m glad you caught it before I had to say something. Although, I’d say something like that if I weren’t kind of pissed off myself.” Zane put her hands up as if in surrender. “Now I know you’re right, you were right in what I was originally thinking. It’s just…” A couple laughs escaped followed by a sigh. “When it comes to this triple threat tag Shouta, the match is ours. It’s ours to lose and it’s ours to win. I learned that over the years along with the whole physical portion of the discipline. I could add an ‘s’ to that but you already called me cocky once. Still, I know what I can do, I’m learning what you can do and most importantly what we can do.” A smirk came across Zane’s face. “Plus it would be pretty cool to see you beat down that creep. We might have to fight over who gets first kicks though. He...well you saw that promo, that car, that house.” The somewhat arrogant expression on her face faded with each passing word.
“Yeah…” MYOJIN responded, his voice growing quiet. He briefly looked away as he thought about the situation, then cleared his throat. He hated to see how all of this had been affecting her.
“...Anyways, right. This match is ours. We're both more than capable of winning this match. Who knows? Maybe if Project: Honor gets some tag team championships, we could take those and rule the division! No one would be able to stop us!” He said with a melodramatic, villainous voice.
“All jokes aside, I'm glad that you're my partner. I know you'll have my back and I'll definitely have yours- That said, I'm still not gonna follow your lead. It wouldn't be any fun with you getting to hog all the spotlight.” He said in a teasing manner.
Zane couldn’t help smiling, out of glee and appreciation for what she knew he was doing. “After all, I showed you, the refusal still stands?! Hmph! Some partner you are.” Letting out a soft giggle, Zane smiled some more. “Oh and don’t tempt me with a rule over the tag team division, before I graced American soil with my presence, I was kind of an ace when it came to that. Plus I got a silver and purple crown, the whole deal.”
Sticking her tongue out playfully, Zane dramatically performed a hair flip. “Also it’s not my fault the spotlight seems to like me...just a..bit..more..” Puckering her lips, Zane blew a kiss before nearly falling back in laughter. “Thanks by the way Shouta. I’ll always have your back too.”
“I'm scared that your head will get so big that it'll pop.” MYOJIN joked, before sitting up fully. “Well, want to run through some more training? Is there something we haven't worked on yet? Maybe we should make up some double team moves considering this might not be the last time we team up.”
“Naughty, very naughty Shouta. If only you knew what happened to the last boy who said my head was inflated.” Grinning mischievously, Zane then nodded her head. “I like the sound of going over some double team moves a lot though so you got some smarts to you. Don’t worry kid, that’ll build up over time. Plus, I’ll help you out along the way. That’s what the greatest of partners are for and I’m sure we’ll have more times on the same side.” Zane’s grin returned along with a wink, as if she knew something.
He raised an eyebrow, “Don't patronize me, Emiko. I'm older than you! ..So, I was thinking since we're both pretty agile, for a tag team move, we could…”
They both continued to talk, brainstorm, and spar for a few more hours. As playful as they were, both of them were taking training for their match very seriously. They planned to win, after all- as losing wasn't an option.
“Well, this is an interesting situation. Isn't it? Three tag teams, all about to throw down as the headliner of the night at the next Proving Grounds- To be honest, this probably should have been the Main Event- I mean… Let's be honest, this'll be a grander fight than any match Colton Saint puts on-”
The Shining Star sat idly, staring forward as the camera started rolling. He was in his comfy apartment, a sly grin on his face as he waved lightly.
“Nonetheless, after that frankly one-sided match against Lil Petey, I've been starving for a real fight. A real adrenaline rush, something to get the blood pumping and to make the crowd lose their minds- and my wish has seemed to be heard. I get to team up with a close friend and the Warrior Rising Champion, Zane. Working with another prodigy such as myself will be a wonderful experience… at least for us.”
MYOJIN laid his cheek against his hand, raising an eyebrow with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
”I can't say the same for the two other teams though.”
“Alas, there's Lil Petey and AJ Timberberg. One of them I've already beat. I said it once and I'll say it again that I kind of hold some disdain for Petey, though it's nothing really personal. But the truth is, these two were made for each other! Why? Well, they're both weren't good enough for their original aspirations so they randomly decided to pick up wrestling. And I hate that. I hate that because they're giving the impression that anyone can do what professional fighters can do. That anyone can just randomly decide to become a wrestler. That's a spit in the face of people that have trained for this all their life, that put in the work every day and night, that truly aim to be the best- Not just trying to get an easy paycheck because being in a Soundcloud rapper and wannabe boy band member didn't work out.”
“Then there's the newcomers! Jay Vaughn and Jonny C! Jonny, before I speak any further, please- PLEASE, get rid of the hair bun. Honey, that isn't a good look for you. Though I appreciate that you're smart enough to recognize that I'm a threat- The problem is you completely overlooked Zane. She's a champion for a reason, a young veteran as she's been wrestling since she was a preteen. Trust me when I say she'll make quick work out of you if you don't recognize what she's capable of.”
“Then, of course, Vaughn. Another in the long line of generic, airheaded, cocky wrestlers that think they're the best while having pretty much nothing to show for it. I'll be honest, I despise your type. You think you're the best, and because of that, himbos like you never really get far because you simply do the same arrogant routine- And when you inevitably lose, you never consider why or even think of changing up your gameplan.”
“You don't respect me?” MYOJIN rolled his eyes and simply snorted.
“Okay. I don't know what makes you think your opinion matters to anyone here. But that's fine- You'll learn to respect me anyways when you realize just how in over your head you are as I put my joint manipulation skills to work. Maybe in smaller ponds, you could back up your words- but darling? I'm on a whole different level.”
“You two other teams better recognize and come correctly. You're going against two of the best Project: Honor has to offer. So do yourselves a favor and take this seriously, bring the best you've got. Beneath my beauty is a cagefighter who's submitted opponents in octagons and squared circles worldwide. Beneath Zane's youth is a talented trickster that can take an advantage over any mistake you make.”
The blonde gave a small wink at the camera. “I'm the Shining Star, she's the Crescent Moon. Facing us alone is bad enough, but when you have to take us on as a team? Let's be honest, you might as well not bother showing up.”
They were finishing up as they practiced their mat grappling. The blonde stood in front of his partner. “So, you know that you're smaller than most- and therefore not the strongest, BUT, you can use that to your advantage: Your speed and nimbleness.
