Hospital stays were always something Lexi disliked even as a child. She could recall when she was younger having her tonsils taken out and dreading that day leading up to it. Every negative assumption was thought of in her head. What if I lost my voice completely? What if they fuck up? But after going through with it everything turned out alright, but this wasn't the case of tonsils being taken out. It was more serious than that. Her grandma is on her deathbed right before her eyes. Lexi and her family had been at the hospital for days. While her family were trying to plan funeral arrangements, Lexi was holding on to hope that somehow her grandma will pull through and survive like the strong woman that she is.
There she sat in the waiting room, unwashed, no makeup and her hair looking like a bird's nest. She believed the dream she had involving her grandma a couple of weeks ago was a sign for this moment, which is scary. After what seemed like an eternity, the doctor called for her parents down the hallway as she sank in her chair trying to process this all, then heard the sounds of crying and screaming, which was a good indication of what happened. Her heart fell out of her chest and her body became completely numb as tears streamed down her face. She heard footsteps approaching, and they stood in front of her, her father rubbing his wife's shoulder for support as they were about to tell her the bad news. She continued crying and avoided any eye contact with them.
Mom: It looks like grandma has passed away. I'm so sorry. This is tough on all of us, especially you, who she always talked about and cared for. For now, you should go home, get some rest and if you need us don't hesitate to give us a ring.
Lexi Gold: I doubt I will sleep much after this. Why her though? Why couldn't my life have been taken instead? She was one of the few good people in this world.
Lexi wipes her tears away, still avoiding eye contact.
Dad: You should not say that, Lex. Look, we all loved grandma, but it was her time to go, as difficult as it is to come to terms with that. Your mother is right, you should go home. It might help to clear your mind.
Lexi Gold: Maybe you're right mopping ain't going to help any, I'll just go home.
Mom: We love you.
Lexi Gold: Love you too.
Lexi sighed and got up out of her chair and hugged them before walking away and heading for the exit door and leaving the hospital. Before walking down the stairs, she stopped and fished for something in her pocket and pulled out a folded paper. She unfolded it and looked it over, keeping it hidden away from the cameras, before stuffing it back in her pocket.
I don't think the Golden Goddesses are destined for gold, at least not yet anyway. There is no sense of whining, complaining, or even blaming someone. We win some, we lose some. At the end of the day, it's about whether you plan to stay down or get up and fight another day. We don't believe in staying down until we are dead, so any attempts will be meaningless. Now it seems like we are entering a new environment to compete at and an unfamiliar one at that, Project: Underground's Emergence.[/color[
She rubs her hands together, excited to venture into something different.
It won't make a difference if we wrestle there, or end up outside Arbys… The Golden Goddess is showing up regardless and will be out there to prove a point. Now our opponents are interesting. Firstly, they could probably fling us out of the ring with one arm due to their size advantage. They are big, strong men, but we aren't intimidated nor will we throw away this match. That's not our style. We will face this challenge head on, and tackle it to the best of our abilities.
Let me get this straight, you two are math teachers who are trying your hands in wrestling. Can't say that I've ever wrestled a pair who were involved in anything school related. As much as I appreciate you both helping these young kids with their education, GG will not take you lightly and give you a lesson on how it's done in a physical manner. We don't care if you are meaner, stronger, faster, or what you have accomplished before, it will not factor in your abilities to beat us.
She takes a deep breath before speaking again.
Every loss and win we face will only make us better for the future, and now, so we don't care what teams you have lined up for us, we will give it one million percent effort. We will die trying to prove the critics wrong. Mark my words.
