“I have no emotion. It’s a blank in my mind.” - Chris Harrington

There comes a point in the life of someone who has been emotionally, physically, and mentally abused where they just stop caring. Where they actually have no more tears left to cry and no emotions to show. They’re just a blank canvas just waiting to accept the next punishment that they do not deserve. Now ten years old, that’s right, ten years old. Tate Selby had gotten to this point in his life. It’s bad enough for an adult to get to this point but Tate was still a child. A child that had never been able to enjoy his childhood at all. Not only that, Tate had never felt what it was like to genuinely be happy. Over his ten years of life so far he can’t even remember the last time he was genuinely happy. Tate even at ten years old was surprised he was still alive. Many times he would’ve been left home alone while his mom, her husband, Grace, and Jack would go out. Tate always thought it’d be him, his sister, and his brother that stuck together. Unfortunately, they’d both been brainwashed by the bullshit that their mom and her husband had fed them. Tate had tried to talk to Grace, and Jack but neither of them wanted to know. Although Tate hadn’t told them what he’d gone through for them, he thought at least they’d have been loyal to him. As tempted as Tate was to let Grace, and Jack know everything he just didn’t have it in him. He knew that they’d either not believe him or he’d end up ruining their life. If he ruined their life he’d be doing just what his mom and her husband said he would end up doing.
That was something that Tate wasn’t going to do, give his mom and her husband the satisfaction of being right. Most of all though, he didn’t want his sister and brother to hate him. They were the only ones that kept him going in life. Without them, there would be no reason for him to live. Their mom and her husband knew this, that’s why they were doing their best to get Grace, and Jack to hate Tate. Their mom and her husband had gone out for the day and had left Tate in charge. This was the chance that Tate had to take to talk to Grace and Jack. Tate managed to get them both in the lounge, Grace, and Jack are now sitting on the couch as Tate sits on a chair in front of them.
“Grace, Jack I have no idea what you’ve been told or made to believe but I’m not trying to cause any problems. Mom and her husband don’t like me and I wish I could tell you the things I’ve had to deal with but I can’t, I just can’t. I do however want to apologize to you both. I apologize for being such a bad brother, I’d love to be there on family days with you but I just can’t. Mom and her husband don’t want me there. They don’t want me to be part of the family because they see me as an outcast. They see me as the black sheep of the family and as far as they’re concerned I’m just a plague on society and their life. I hope you both understand that no matter what they do or say, I’m not the one to blame. I really shouldn’t at ten years old be having this conversation with my sister who is nine years old and my brother who is five years old.”
As Tate pauses, he looks over at Jack who just cuddled up to Grace on the couch as they both looked at Tate. Tate could tell by the look in their eyes that they both had their doubts about what Tate was saying.
“I’m honestly not the problem here Grace and Jack. I can tell just by looking at you that you doubt what I am saying and that hurts more than what our mom and her husband could ever do to me. I’ve always wanted what is best for you both. Mom and her husband know this too. It’s why they do whatever they can to hurt me. They’re trying to break me so I end up leaving because they can see that I’m becoming a problem for them. They know eventually that you’ll both see the truth of what is happening.”
“Tate, Jack, and I doubt what you’re saying because if mom and her husband hated you they could’ve got rid of you long ago. You were given the option of whether to stay with us or not. Jack used to adore you but seeing what you’ve become he is frightened to be around you.”
The words from his sister Grace hit him hard. Even though he had no more tears left to cry, he was upset and it made him angry because he couldn’t shed the tears he needed to and wanted to. Instead, he sat there looking at them both emotionless even though he wanted to show them he was upset, he just wasn’t able to do so anymore, which broke Tate’s heart.
“I chose to stay because I wanted to be with both of you. Don’t you think it hurts me that you both doubt me? It hurts me, even more, to hear Jack is scared of me. He doesn’t have to be scared of me, I’m not going to hurt him, I’m not going to hurt either of you. I love you both, I’m sorry that I can no longer show any emotions. You can thank mom and her very delightful husband for that. Before mom’s husband, you can thank her flavor of the week. The new daddy she was trying to find for the both of you. Mom was never worried about me at all. That’s fine though, I learned to deal with that long ago. What I find hard to deal with though is why you both doubt me and why Jack is scared of me.”
Getting to his feet, Tate starts to pace up and down with clenched fists. This causes Jack to hold onto Grace tighter in fear.
“Tate. You don’t have to do this. Look at poor Jack. He is absolutely petrified of you. I don’t know what has gotten into you.”
“I could tell you what has gotten into me but you’d just doubt that too. It’s whatever though Grace. I’m not about to put you and Jack in the position that I am in. I don’t want to ruin your happiness and I sure as hell don’t want Jack to be scared of me, I’m sorry.”
Unclenching his fists, Tate walks toward Jack who starts to cry and cling to Grace even more.
“Tate, he doesn’t want to be near you. I think it is best that you back off.”
This really hurts Tate, it felt like his already broken heart had just been shattered. Although he had no more tears left to cry, you could still see the sorrow and pain in his eyes. He goes back to the chair and sits on it looking at them both.
“So this is how it’s going to be from now on then? I guess I’m the bad guy in all of this, aren’t I? I really did think of all people that the both of you would always have my back. It’s cool though, it’s not like this isn’t what mom and her husband wanted. Well congratulations to them for getting what they want from the both of you. That’s something they’re not going to get from me. I’m not going to fall in line. I’m sorry that you both feel I’m the problem but if that’s the way it is so be it.”
Once again, Tate gets to his feet. He then picks the chair up and puts it back where he got it from. He looks over at Grace and Jack on the couch. Grace was clearly upset and Jack was clearly still scared. Just seeing that made Tate angry. This was something their mom and her husband were hoping for. Now they’ve both got what they wanted, Grace, and Jack on their side. Tate couldn’t stand to see Grace, and Jack like that, the front door opens, and in walked their mom first. Tate walks past her and doesn’t even acknowledge her existence on his way past. That’s when he spots the husband walking up towards the front door.
“Don’t say a fucking word.”
The husband just glares at Tate who glares back at him. That’s when the husband starts to smirk at Tate which angers him even more.
“You really think you’re something special, don’t you? You happy now that Grace and Jack believe I’m the problem?”
“Yes.”
Enough was enough. That smug and straight-to-the-point answer was enough to send Tate into a frenzy. He picks up a rock from beside him and lunges at his mom’s husband. Tate managed to connect with the rock to the side of his mom’s husband's temple. The blood started to flow down the face of the husband as Tate dropped the rock and ran off not looking back.

There was nothing fancy when it came to “The Outcast” Tate Selby. He didn’t need anything flamboyant. That wasn’t who Tate Selby was. Tate was about taking care of business whether that’d be verbally or physically. Once again, Tate Selby was just set up in front of the camera in a side room of Matthews Multi-Gym. This was the gym of his trainer, manager, and agent Eddie Matthews.
“Jason Long. A man that used to be able to back up the fact he was The King of Wrestling. I’ll give credit where it’s due though. You did bring it in that Triple Threat Match but you don’t have that safety net of Billy Bennett this time around Jason. It’s just you and I this time around. You won’t be able to use glue this time to help you either. Not even barbed wire to help. You may have tried to decapitate me with that barbed wire but it didn’t work did it? You may have added scars to the ones I already have. That’s okay Jason. You take pride in that. I’ll take pride in showing you what real violence is. I don’t need the help of weapons to do that. Just know that it took everything Billy and you had to keep me down. What makes you think you’re capable on your own, Jason? For years I’ve had to fight with people that thought they could keep me down. Not one of them was successful and there is nothing more special about you than there was about them. You can try your hardest but it’s not going to be good enough Jason. You’re not the man you used to be. Whereas I’m the man you’ll wish to be. Just in my third fight, I was stepping in the ring with the Legacy Champion. You’re not as good as you believe you’re Jason. For too long your ego has been fed by clowns. When you surround yourself with clowns, eventually you become one of them. Yes, you did bring the fight to me in that Triple Threat Match. No, you won’t do the same in our match. You have a lot to thank Billy Bennett for. She is the reason you survived to have this match against me. Much like myself though, Billy sees you for the joke that you’ve become.”
There was a jug of water on the table with a lot of ice in it. The water looked cold, nearly as cold as the stare from Tate Selby into the camera. Grabbing the jug of ice-cold water, Tate pours it into the glass in front of him. He then places the jug back down on the table followed by having a couple of sips of his water.
“Talking about Billy Bennett, I was as impressed with her as she was with me. I was surprised when she leaned in to whisper hoarsely. She said something along the lines of ‘Ya did good, big man... Real good... Hope ya can play with Billy again somet-’ Only she didn’t finish her sentence. Seems I’d stunned her into silence. The fact that she’d hit me with her brutal finishing maneuver but I was awake and ready for more. I’m guessing she isn’t used to that, someone just like her. The words that I still savior though is what she said next ‘Goddamn... What the fuck are ya made outta, pal...?’ As if to say it was a shock that I was still ready to keep fighting. You see Jason, when the Legacy Champion Billy Bennett asks someone that, you should be worried about having to step in the ring with them alone. Now, I know I’m going to get the talk about how you’re not scared. I honestly hope that is true. Cause I’m sure as hell not scared of whichever one of you turns up to our match. Whether it be Maverick, Jason Long, or The Entity. It will not matter if your head is square or not either. I’m still going to punch, elbow, headbutt, kick the fuck out of it, and drop you on it enough times to damage whatever brain cells are left.”
“I’d sit here and explain the reason I hate you Jason but I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain that to you. It’s okay though. There is no need for you to shed a tear at all. We all know behind that supposedly hard exterior is a whiney ol’ bitch. I’m sure after I beat you, you’ll still claim to be this and that because you’ve done this and that. All I can say to you is, that you hold onto your past achievements because it’s all you’re going to be recognized for. I’m going to beat you back into the lower leagues where you rightfully belong. Did you know there’s a tree creating the oxygen you're wasting? I suggest you go to find it in the woods and apologize. You wouldn’t want to upset those tree-hugging, leaf-munching hippies. They’re not the people to mess with. Look at Ratman, he looks like one of those people who’d come and curse you for damaging the environment. Maybe I shouldn’t be pissing off the Fallout Co-GM. Then again, I don’t care who I piss off, to be honest. Whether it’s the gypsy curse giver Ratman or the walking hemorrhoid Lil Petey it doesn’t matter. I’m always going to go out there and get the job done. I don’t care who I have to hurt, upset or injure either. If you’re stupid enough to get in my way or step in that ring with me, you will face the consequences. Jason, it doesn’t matter if it’s you or anyone else who bitches and says ‘Go easy on me.’ That isn’t going to happen, I’m Tate Selby not fucking Adele.”
Picking the glass of water up from where he’d placed it on the table, Tate has a couple of mouthfuls before once again placing it back down from where he got it from.
“Jason, if your mom is a MILF I can do her a big favor. I can fuck her and actually give her a child she can actually be proud of. Failing that, as long as she has a nice enough body, I can always stick a pillowcase over her head. Even better, I could give the world a gift it doesn't really deserve, I could use a form of capital punishment to rid the world of the vermin creator that she is. I guess while I'm using said capital punishment, I can take great joy in ridding the world of your cancerous genes, you feckless bastard. You brought this upon yourself. You decided to start something that I’m going to finish. This brutality is just a fraction of what is coming your way inside that ring. I hope you bring your best. If you don’t bring your best, it’s your funeral.”
“Jason, I don’t need to stab or shoot you to end you. You see I’m the magnifying glass that's going to burn you like the puny little ant that you are. You clearly know how dangerous I am for you to attack me as the coward you’re before the match even started. You’ll always know when I attack because you’ll see me before I drop you on your head. I don’t need to jump people because I don’t need an advantage. I say an advantage, it wasn’t like you took advantage of it anyway. Somewhere, somehow, you are robbing a village of their idiot. This is why you are the reason why shampoo has instructions. I’d apologize for insulting your intelligence but that’d mean I’d have to accept you have any sort of intelligence. Simple put for you, Jason. Stop eating crayons. You have no intelligence. For now, I say bye, bye, dumb, dumb. I’ll see you at Fallout when maybe you get the chance to walk away with an IQ that isn’t going to be negative. First for everything I guess.”
The icy cold stare from Tate is spine chilling as he stared into the camera and shrugged his shoulders at his last comment. Grabbing the glass of water, he finished off what was in it before placing the glass back down on the table. Tate gets up to his feet and makes his way toward the door. As Tate opens the door, Eddie Matthews walks past him. Tate stops at the door and looks at Eddie before grabbing him by the scruff of the shirt.
“Let’s not fry Jason’s brain even more before the fight, Eddie.”
The last thing you see is Eddie being dragged from the room and the last thing you hear is the door of the room slamming closed.
