It’s earlier in the day and Mark Hunter’s already at work, he’s sitting at his new desk. However he’s not alone, on the chair opposite is his good friend Adam Ekaterin.
MARK HUNTER: So the paperwork is final on all of that?
ADAM EKATERIN: Yeah, Cage fired, Commentators both fired, Charisma fired and obviously medical bills covered due to the unfortunate incident involving Meatball earlier in the week.
MARK HUNTER: What about the deals coming in?
ADAM EKATERIN: Anya is locked in, can’t be here tonight due to a previous agreement with a local Indy show.
MARK HUNTER: Brilliant and that’s fair enough, she’s Johnny Levy’s illegitimate sister right?
ADAM EKATERIN: Yeah… poor cow. Leon’s deal is signed, he starts tonight at the table. As for the seat beside him, I still can’t believe who you’ve given that job to.
Mark chuckles at Adam.
MARK HUNTER: Everyone has spent four months laughing at this show, why change that?
Adam grins.
ADAM EKATERIN: You said that not me, have you heard the rumours about tonight?
MARK HUNTER: No, been busy.
ADAM EKATERIN: Online talk is that Indy Darling and Billy Bennett could be showing up tonight.
PROJECT: UNDERGROUND: X
A WHOLE NEW WORLD
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13TH, 2022
2300 ARENA, PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA
I wake up to the sounds
Of the silence that allows
For my mind to run around
With my ear up to the ground
As the intro begins, replays of moments from the last show begin to play. Andrea moving over to Jupiter, grabbing his legs and quickly trapping him in the Kiwi Krunch, forcing Jupiter to tap out from the Texas Clover leaf.
I'm searching to behold
The stories that are told
When my back is to the world
That was smiling when I turned
The next scene shows Virgil Barrick nailing O’Connor with Lariat after Lariat before leaving him motionless and getting a referee stoppage.
Tell you you're the greatest
But once you turn they hate us
Next up, we see the ring of fire surrounding Lurch, Blaze, and Gin. The grin on Blaze’s face is uncomfortable as Lurch locks Gin in the Camel Clutch.
Oh the misery
Everybody wants to be my enemy
Spare the sympathy
Everybody wants to be
My enemy-y-y-y-y
(Look out for yourself)
My enemy(Look)-y(Look)-y(Look)-y(Look)-y
(Look out for yourself)
But I'm ready
After that we get a view of Marc Aaron Newton standing there waiting on Christopher Graves. The count out happens but Graves' appearance never does.
Your words up on the wall
As you're praying for my fall
And the laughter in the halls
And the names that I've been called
The Headliner was up next with a little back and forth between Kurtis Slayne and Tyler Cage, we get to see the interference from Meatball and the roll up allowing Slayne to get the one, two, three.
I stack it in my mind
And I'm waiting for the time
When I show you what it's like
To be words spit in a mic
End of the song and final playback was the Main Event of Meatball and Joseph Blaze. The match went back and forth brilliantly, Blaze stands the tallest after hitting The New Testament…
… we are now greeted by the Project: Underground logo.
The show kicks off at the commentary table, Project Underground's fresh pairing ready to kick off the new era.
?: Welcome to Project Underground from myself, Leon English and my colleague at the desk…
NOAH HOPE: ME!!!!!!!!! The former main roster champion, Jason Long conqueror, and pay per view main eventer… NOAH HOPE!!!
LEON ENGLISH: This is gonna be entertaining, now though the ring is surrounded by the Underground roster and I believe we are waiting on an address from the boss himself.
The roster is indeed around the ring and seem to be waiting with a mixture of expressions, some may have enjoyed the previous regime, however some others may see the new one as the perfect opportunity.
NOAH HOPE: I’m so excited I could wee my my superman pants right here, right now.
Leon slowly rolls his chair a little further away from Noah…
LEON ENGLISH: Errrr… oooookayyyy…
In the centre of the ring is a small table and stall, on the table is a plain briefcase and microphone. As the crowd rumble… “Feel Invincible” by Skillet suddenly sounds throughout the building and the crowd erupt into a very mixed response. Some obviously aware of the fact he’s an asshole, others happy to see a new captain at the helm of Project Underground. After a few seconds' pause Mark Hunter strolls out onto the ramp area, he smirks in a self-satisfied and confident manner at the reaction from the fans and begins his walk down to the ring. Mark acknowledges very few of the wrestlers but is met by the scowling face of one, Kurtis Slayne openly shows Mark the middle finger, Hunter can be seen to mouth “not wise” toward Kurtis as he enters between the middle and top rope. Hunter climbs up and poses for the crowd whilst taking in the response from the fans. He soon steps down to the canvas and before perching on the stall. As the music dies, Mark takes the mic.
MARK HUNTER: I’m not here to make this about me, I’m not here to shit on what's gone before, I’m here to make sure Project Underground becomes a viable threat to the landscape currently dominated by Fallout and Proving Ground. I see my roster and I see a group of raw untapped potential superstars just BEGGING for a direction. This is not a time to drip feed information or waste time, you have already spent months waiting for something to happen. Before today you have been promised a pay per view event and had nothing… right?
The wrestlers around the ring all nod.
MARK HUNTER: I think you’ve waited long enough, therefore on the fifteenth of May, we as a brand will send a message to the so-called big boys when we present the first pay per view in Underground history. We will lay down a marker, we as a group fucking deserve this, the show will be call Emergence!!
Mark unclips the clasp on the briefcase.
MARK HUNTER: You waited way too long for the first pay per view, you’ve also waited to long for the opportunity to win this.
The case is opened and revealed is the Project Underground Champion Title Belt.
MARK HUNTER: This show will see the main event crown Project Underground's first champion, it’s not the belt you were promised by Savannah months ago. This is a no thrills championship you win be being the fucking best… Now you all must know that I’m a fair man, the wrestlers competing for this belt on that night are already chosen based on records to date. Like I said, I’m fair, however one thing you must ALL learn…
Mark stares directly at Slayne.
MARK HUNTER: An action from you will always receive a reaction from me, I see what you did Kurtis, the middle finger action now gets its reaction. The match for the title was to be a four way, it’s now a three way. The three competing for that belt will be… JOSEPH BLAZE… MEATBALL… AND VIRGIL BARRICK!!
Kurtis looks about ready to burst as the three announced nod in satisfaction.
MARK HUNTER: Like I said though, I’m fair, you Kurtis can re-earn that chance, you win your match on the twenty seventh and I'll put you back in, it’ll be the four way originally planned. Otherwise… tough shit!!
Mark looks around at the rest of his roster.
MARK HUNTER: Those three wrestlers, maybe four are being rewarded for what has gone before. The rest of you though can step up, nobody currently on the roster or that joins between now and Emergence will be excluded from the chance that pay per view will grant you… ANY of you win a match at that pay per view and you’ll main event the following show with the chance to become number one contender. So in closing, to make it clear… any of you can become champion, you just have to earn it.
Hunter takes a breath and stands up.
MARK HUNTER: I’ll fight for ALL of you and the honor of this show, respect me and you’ll be just fine… but also remember… actions create reactions!! It’s time to forget the small-time mentality of before, we take over, under my leadership we are nobody's prey… we stand together!!
"Just Like You" by Falling in Reverse hits the arena and the crowd erupt, Kurtis is held back by a few roster members and none other than twenty five percent owner, Indy Darling strolls down the ramp. Indy blanks Kurtis and everyone else before sliding into the ring. Indy and Mark share a quick handshake as Darling talks into Mark’s ear, whatever is said is completely inaudible. Eventually Indy steps back receiving a nod from Hunter, Indy then leaves through the crowd as his music dies away.
MARK HUNTER: Hey roster… change of plan, the pay per view is the last show until further notice... forget everything I just said other than the title announcement… I’d rather stand alone.
A stunned roster and crowd looks on as Hunter just shrugs.
OPENING MATCH
CHRISTOPHER GRAVES vs TRAFALGAR LAW vs JUPITER
TRIPLE THREAT MATCH
For the second time in two shows, Graves was a no show. However with Law and Jupiter both willing to compete the ref started a singles match, the contest was pretty unspectacular and didn’t really excite. Eventually with both down on the ground, Andrea Cross strolled down the ramp, Andrea chose to hit both with her KIWI KRUSH forcing the ref to call an end to the match.
VERA KNIGHT: Due to interference and neither being able to compete…. The ref has declared this match a draw.
MATCH TWO
CASIMIR THE CLOWN vs NATHAN O’CONNOR
SINGLES MATCH
O’Connor attempted a fast start but was dropped by Casimir with a big boot, Casimir followed that start with his Story Changer crucifix powerbomb. So in a match lasting less than a full minute, Casimir The Clown gets the pinfall.
VERA KNIGHT: The winner via pinfall… CASIMIR THE CLOWN!!
Backstage Mark is in his office, he starts strolling towards the door to leave as it flies open. Tyler Cage barges in looking far from impressed.
TYLER CAGE: What the fuck are you playing at? First you leave us off the card… THEN YOU FIRED MY BROTHER!!! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!!!
Mark squares up to Tyler.
MARK HUNTER: I want the best for Project Underground and that isn't Justin... however you right now are proving you have the fire I want, you have everything to be a star for me and MY show... you can bitch and moan about your brother OR you can make the most of the fire I've lit under your ass… be the whole damn show... the choice is yours. Cry about what's gone, or be a fucking star…
Mark makes for the door leaving Tyler looking unsure.
MARK HUNTER: Oh and remember, you don’t have to be on the card to impact the show.
Tyler smirks at the departing Hunter.
MATCH THREE
GIN KUROMIYA vs SCAR
SINGLES MATCH
Before the bell rung, Tyler Cage slid under the bottom rope, Gin saw him coming and backed away. Scar however wasn’t quick enough to evade a backstabber followed by two brutal Bad Attitude curb stomps from a clearly peed off Tyler Cage.
VERA KNIGHT: The previous contest has been cancelled due to Tyler Cage interference.
HEADLINER
KURTIS SLAYNE vs MEATBALL
SINGLES MATCH
Kurtis sized up Meatball from the bell. There is an obvious size difference and Meatball used it. Meatball used his power to control the pace throughout, “Big Bad” hits Slayne with more suplexs than you can count. Eventually Meatball tried a senton but missed, Kurtis took that time to use the ropes for as much quick fire offence as he could muster. Kurtis attempted a short arm lariat but Meatball literally ignored the impact. The match swung back and forth like this for some time before once again the power of Meatball became too much. Kurtis impressively kicked out of both the Bad Driver Jackhammer and Revvin’ Up Rolling Thunder signature moves of Meatball.
After a few minutes of neither man being able to put the other away and Meatball even kicking out of a pin attempt where the ropes were used, Meatball in the end catches Slayne with his version of the Swanton Bomb, named Meatbomb… he gets the pinfall win!
VERA KNIGHT: The winner of the match via pinfall… MEATBALL!!
MAIN EVENT
VIRGIL BARRICK vs JOSEPH BLAZE
SINGLES MATCH
Virgil and Joseph traded shots and quickly Blaze got the upper hand with a spinning back fist, Joseph attempted a headbutt but Virgil gripped onto Blaze's neck before choke bombing him into the corner. Barrick fired away with brutal Knife Edge Chop after Knife Edge Chop as Blaze complained and gripped his chest in pain. Virgil never let up on his attack, meticulously stalking Joseph before a german suplex. It hit perfect and left Blaze scrambling into a corner seeking sanctuary. Virgil grinned at his fallen foe which seemed to irritate Blaze, causing him to fire up and charge.
Virgil was able to evade Blaze, Joseph reared back and dropped Virgil with a superman elbow. After a few shots Virgil created some distance with no more than a shove, despite that Blaze nailed the next shot with a picture perfect Blaze Of Glory Lariat.
As Joseph was set to pin Barrick, Jingo Jungle by Myth & Roid blasted the speakers of the arena, that distraction cost Blaze greatly. Gin never showed and the music died but not before Virgil rolled Joseph up for a pinfall.
VERA KNIGHT: The winner of the match via pinfall… VIRGIL BARRICK!!
After the bell Joseph shot towards the back clearly after revenge as Barrick stood, arms raised in victory.
