THE RHODES HOUSEHOLD
FEATURING BRANDON HENDRIX, ESTELLE RHODES, & TYSON RHODES
Stella is currently sprawled out across her bed, brow furrowed in pure concentration as laptop is settled in front of her. Pillows are propped up keeping her back upright and straight to avoid any pain, a water bottle sits beside her, which she picks up to take a long sip from. She’s busy typing away, working on yet another piece of fanfiction, this time a continuation of Leovanni fic she had been working on. After setting her water bottle down again, she stares at the screen, looking at it with narrowed eyes. “Okay, let’s see what we have so far…” Tongue peeks out from plush pink lips as her gaze settles onto the words before her. She had been working hard on this for the last few days, a new chapter to add to her collection on AO3, as well as a few other sites. But, this had to be perfect, not only for the fans of her writing, but because apparently her writing was being read by some of her co-workers now. Not that any of them knew who was behind the account, but they still read it.
The setting of this particular chapter was an alternate universe, set in a superhero type of setting. Johnny Levy and Giovanni are deep in battle, amongst some other members of the Proving Ground roster, who all have powers of their own. While it’s been made clear Johnny has no real powers, he does have a boatload of money and put it towards good research. In fact, it turned out pretty well in the end, especially with all the neat technology and suits he had made. Well, he hadn’t made them on his own, of course. He had help from a few college kids. But, that’s not the point. Yes, they were not paid, that is also not the point. Just know that Tony Stark is nothing compared to Johnny Levy, the TRUE American hero.
Things had been going pretty well, zero casualties, so far. All in all, it’s a pretty even battle. Until something strikes Giovanni’s attention in one of the shop windows. “Oh, I absolutely HAVE to have that. Do you know how rare that fabric is? The design? The color?” His hand presses against the glass of the window, seemingly forgetting all about the battle he was in. Though, it costs him, as a blast is sent in his direction and Johnny is too late to save his friend. There’s panic in the air as the blast sends Giovanni crashing against a nearby wall, one arm wrapped around his midsection. He’s gasping for air almost instantly, clearly taking the brunt of the damage.
Johnny Levy zooms over after taking out a few enemies, ignoring the cries of help from his comrades as he makes it to Giovanni. He drops down after opening up the faceplate of his helmet, taking in the full extent of his partners injuries. “Hey, hey. You’re fine, you’re going to be okay. Look at me.” Johnny applies pressure to the wound, tries to keep Giovanni focused. “You are such an idiot sometimes, Giovanni. I told you to stay close by for this reason alone! Why are you always so stubborn?” Johnny’s voice breaks in some spots, though he holds back on his tears as Giovanni takes one bloodied hand to grasp Johnny’s.
Meanwhile, there’s a commotion going on downstairs unbeknownst to the twenty one year old currently reading her rough draft. The doorbell had been rung and Estelle had sauntered over from the living room to answer the door. “Oh, hey baby! Didn’t expect to see ya’ today. Come on in.” Estelle smiles brightly, holding the door open for Brandon Hendrix as he gives a small nod in greeting. He steps inside, pressing a brief kiss to one of Estelle’s cheeks. “Stella! Your boyfriend’s here!” Estelle calls up the stairs, a moment later. Though, there’s no answer from Stella, who is still deep in her own thoughts. “That damn girl, must be in her own little world again. Don’t worry ‘bout it, you head on up. I’m sure she won’t mind.” Estelle smiles, lightly patting one of Brandon’s arms as she steps aside.
There’s a brief moment of hesitation from the large male, though he makes the trek up the stairs with ease. As he approaches Stella’s door, he places one hand on the door knob, before knocking softly. Once, twice, even three times. He can clearly hear typing happening in the room, so he lets himself in. “Hey, Ste-” There’s a loud high pitched shriek from the woman on the bed, who chucks a pillow at her boyfriend with zero hesitation. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?! YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOCKED!” Hands quickly slam the laptop shut and slide it beneath her bed without another word. “I did knock, you didn’t answer. But, I figured you were catching up on some college courses or something. Your mom let me in. Am I interrupting?” Brandon steps into the room, door shutting behind him as Stella huffs slightly.
“No, it’s fine. You’re fine, it’s my fault. I’m sorry.” She grimaces momentarily, pushing some stuffed animals from her bed to make room for him. “Sorry, there’s a lot of stuffies everywhere. Um, did I forget something or anything? Or is this just a random social?” She blinks, settling onto the pillows behind her as the large male sinks into the bed beside her. Shoes kicked off as he leans back letting out a gentle sigh of content. “Nope, just wanted to drop by and surprise my girl is all.” He wraps an arm around her waist, pressing a gentle kiss to one of her exposed shoulders. She’s currently dressed in a tanktop and a pair of sweatpants as she snuggles up to him.
“Aw, cute. Well, it was a nice surprise. I appreciate you.” She presses a kiss to his cheek, nuzzling against him for a moment as he chuckles lightly. “Big match coming up for you, eh?” Brandon’s attention focuses onto Stella, who sighs softly. “Something like that. What about you though? Elena is one tough chick.” A beat. “But, you’re a lot tougher! You’re totally gonna kick her butt and stuff.” She nods firmly, though Brandon shrugs. “It’s fine, trying not to think about it too much. Hey, what are you in the mood for? I figure I’d order some food for you guys tonight.” The conversation drones on as Stella and Brandon enjoy the rest of the night together, the rest of the Leovanni fanfic to be continued another day.
“I have not had the best of luck lately.” A pause as Stella finally comes into view, she’s wearing a black dress that clings to her curves perfectly, stars adorning her outfit as she sits in one of the balcony lounge chairs. “But, I’m not going to let it deter me from doing my best from here on out. I’m not just some silly little kid, I’m a grown up and I have a lot of things I want to accomplish here on Proving Ground.”
“So, I’m going to go out there this time and absolutely do the best that I can. But, I’m not alone either! I’ve got a lot of friends on my side this time. We’re going to band together to make sure we come out of this with a victory on our side.” A nod as she takes a sip from her glass of wine, it’s sweet to the taste, though there’s a strong hint of alcohol as well.
“I want to prove to everyone that I have what it takes to be one of the bests around here. I want to prove to everyone that I’m not just some silly, naive little fangirl. I have skills and I know how to use them to the best of my abilities. I don’t want to let anyone else down anymore. So, I’m going to ensure that I work hard alongside my teammates to secure us a win. I don’t want to be labelled a failure, or a laughing stock, for that matter. I want to prove that I have the abilities to fight the good fight and come out of this with my head held high.”
She frowns, though it’s only briefly. “Our oppositions will not be taken lightly either though. They have as much a chance of winning as my team does. But, only one team can win and only one person can pick up the win for that. Whatever happens out there, I know that we are all going to do our best to succeed no matter what happens. If anyone tries to knock us down, we will always rise back up and make sure nothing stands in our way next time. Heads held high, chin up, and a smile on our faces. Win or lose, we are going to do the very best that we can.”
“I learned a lot from Brandon and Mike and so many others. Failure is not always an easy thing to come to grips with. But, we learn from our mistakes and we drag ourselves back up and try harder next time. There is always room for improvement and this time?” Stella smiles at the camera, grinning brightly. “This star will shine above and rise to the occasion. Whatever it takes!” She raises her glass, almost like a toast of sorts, before the scene fades out.
