Static fills the screen. There's a quiet hum to it. It reads the current date in the corner, like an old home video: "Dec. 14, 2020". The image of a blackened heart forms in the static for a brief moment. The date listed in the corner suddenly changes to "Nov. 13, 2000". The static cuts revealing the inside of what appears to be an empty warehouse. It is old, and dilapidated. It has decayed to the point where the moonlight begins to shine down through the holes in the roof. There is an eerie quiet. The silence persists for a few more moments, until footsteps can be faintly heard in the distance. From within the darkness. They are slow, never changing their pace. A faint shape can be seen moving slowly through the moonlight. A voice can be faintly heard in the distance, singing:
We'll begin
With a spin
Traveling in
The world of my creation
What we'll see
Will defy
Explanation...
The figure grows closer and closer, passing through the beams of light, staring directly into the camera. He continues to hum his melody as he approaches, before he eventually stands beneath the last and closest beam of light. He wears a white and black suit, his hair hangs loosely on his shoulders and down his back. His eyes are a piercing light blue. He holds his arms folded behind his back, and smiles at the camera.
We're getting close. Yes, Unbreakable Resolution is approaching, and the people are very, very excited. I know I am. This is going to be my debut, after all. And to make things even more exciting, it's going to be in a ten-man "Purge Match". It's an interesting name, I know. So marketable. I’m sure Mr. Johnson is very proud of that one.
Blackheart strokes at his chin is he inhales, closing his eyes. Something appears to bother him for a moment, but as he exhales, he suddenly returns to his calm expression.
I’ve seen this kind of thing before. It’s quite simple. Throw all of the newer talent into a single match, and watch as they all attempt to destroy each other in order to prove themselves as the stand out above the rest. It’s a marketing strategy. The audience gets the human demolition derby that they crave, and Mr. Johnson and Mr. Wheeler get more butts in seats. More money in their wallets. It’s typical of these company owners. The question they ask themselves is “What can we do next to line our pockets even more?”
Blackheart’s expression becomes more grim, as his brows narrow, and his eye slightly twitches. His grin widens.
It’s their greed, you see. Their need for more riches. For more fortune. Sure this match could really hurt someone, but who cares about that. It can make us a new star that we could really market. Make them the “Next Big Thing”. Make more off of their name. But as we all know, greed is a dangerous thing. I hope for their sake it doesn’t catch up with them. And to the many opponents I will be meeting within that ring come Unbreakable Resolution, I do hope you’re as ready as I am for a bloody good time. It will be fun watching all of you trample over each other like rats. But just be wary of the snake that’ll be sitting in the grass. Waiting.
Blackheart chuckles as he slowly begins to back away from the moonlight, his eyes still locked on the camera.
Waiting to strike. From within the shadows… Tata for now!
The static gradually returns to overtake the screen, as the tape suddenly ends.
