"Tell me then... no more vague clues - no more guessing what it is you want. I know you work in mysterious ways, but sometimes I don't need guidance. I need answers.
...
What am I doing wrong?" The scene opens with a shot of Lesley Adora kneeling on a white plush rug, staring up at the ceiling of The Garden of Light. The glass top of the garden allows for plenty of illumination, however even though the sun is clearly out, the light seems to not shine through as strong as usual. Adora waits for a moment before finally letting his head hang low.
"I don't get it. I understand faith, but isn't blind faith just ignorance? If hoping for something to change yet doing the same thing over and over again is insanity, then how can you expect me to keep doing it? I stumble, I catch my footing. I fall, I get back up. I'm knocked out and yet I come back to fight... Fight for you. I give so much of myself for you and yet when I ask for just a little bit in return, where are you? Why is it that I do everything that is asked of me without questioning ANYTHING... yet when I do finally break down and ask the question I am given no answer? What do you expect me to do?
...
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO!?"
Lesley slams his fits to the floor, looking up at the ceiling in desperation. When nothing happens, he just shakes his head.
"I'm so tired. I'm so tired of living my life trying to appease a shadow. It's like trying to empty the ocean with a spoon blindfolded. Everytime I think I've done what needs to be done, there's always more. It's never enough. And yet, again I'm blinded - so I'll never truly know when it is enough will I?
No. I won't.
But that's by design, I reckon. Because it's a test isn't it. Another one of your forsaken tests where I can never know the answer because the question is forever changing. It's not fair...
It's not fair."
Lesley stands, his knees buckling as he regains his footing. "Well I'm tired of falling because I'm not told how to stand. I'm tired of guessing because I'm not given any information to find the true answer. I'm tired of failing... because I'm NOT GIVEN A CHANCE TO EVER SUCCEED. IT'S NOT RIGHT. EVERYTHING I'VE GONE THROUGH, EVERYTHING I'VE DONE IN YOUR NAME... YET I HAVE SHIT TO SHOW FOR IT. Well I'm done...
DO YOU HEAR ME?? I'M DONE." Adora kicks the dirt, trying to regain the breath in his heaving lungs as he continues with a trembling voice.
"... I'm done." Lesley looks to the sky once more, and when an answer never comes, as he knew it wouldn't, he simply walks off screen. There's a moment - and after that moment has passed, rays of bright light begin to pour into the garden.
Blinding.
Glorious.
Light.
