A successful third defense.
Who would have thought?
It seemed like everyone had been expecting things to go wrong for the Shining Star. For their story as the X-Factor Champion to come to an end. Everyone had seemed to believe that Casanova English was going to be the one that would dethrone them at Unbreakable Resolution, and to be honest- They understood why, considering his dominant run with the Warrior Rising title… But MYOJIN bet on themself as they always did. Everyone expected, everyone predicted- but most of MYOJIN's career was subverting expectations, and they did it again.
They were still X-Factor Champion. Not only that, but they had more title defenses than anyone who held the title before them. And not only that, they beat another champion to do it. The blonde was going further than ever seen before, and they didn't plan on stopping any time soon.
The first Unbreakable Resolution ended in defeat for the Shining Star, a mark on their career that had always bothered them ever since. But the second one ended with triumph, finally righting a wrong from two years ago. To say they were ecstatic about it would be a gross understatement.
MYOJIN was feeling great, well, besides the pounding headache that came from getting a chair smashed across the back of their head.
The blonde sat backstage after their match, staring down at the reflective, golden main plate with an electric blue X in the middle of the championship that lay in their lap. Sweat caused their hair to cling to their face like a torn curtain as they breathed heavily with a small wince, holding a gloved hand to the side of their head.
“Hey, I saw what that asshole did after the match. Are you okay?” The familiar voice of Caden caught MYOJIN's attention as they looked up and gave a faint grin, giving a small thumbs up.
“The doctor said I'm not concussed, so besides the back of my head killing me- You know me, I've been through worse.” They spoke, standing up. Caden reciprocated the smile as he nodded.
“Yeah, you've really started off the year with a bang. Oh, also-! I got you an ice pack, figured you'd want one after everything that went down.” Their manager went to sit down on the toolbox next to them, holding out the pack which they took and placed to their head with a sigh. The pounding aches started to grow numb once the cold made contact with it.
“So, how are you feeling champ? You did it, just like I said you would- because I'm right like all of the time.” Caden boasted, his cheery demeanor showing as he gave one of his trademark goofy grins. MYOJIN simply rolled their eyes with a small snort, before looking back down at their title.
“It's… It's kind of hard to explain what I feel like right now. There's, um, this weird sense of… completion? I was satisfied with everything that I accomplished before, but there was always something missing. Always a chip on my shoulder that I never seemed to be able to get rid of. But after that? I feel like I've finally broken through a wall that's been in my way ever since I started. I finally feel like I'm fulfilling the promise made when I first won this: That I'd be the best champion to hold it.” MYOJIN sighed, they were exhausted. They couldn't deny that Casanova English had almost pushed them to their limit, but almost wasn't good enough. But they were thankful for that, thankful to be pushed to be a better wrestler than they were before.
“...Don't let this get to your head, Caden. But you were right. About how I needed to stop being afraid and worried about what could happen and to focus on being myself, I really needed to hear that. I probably wouldn't have been the victor tonight if I hadn't.”
Caden leaned over to pat their shoulder, then gave them a little playful nudge. “You're giving me way too much credit, man. Everything you did tonight was all you, it always has been. It's just that sometimes you can get into your own head, and I'll always back you- because that's what a friend is for, yeah?”
MYOJIN lightly nudged him back with a little laugh, “Yeah.”
“I should probably go find Himari, she tends to get pretty worried about me after matches so I can't imagine how she's feeling right now. Again, thanks.” MYOJIN suddenly gave Caden a hug, which surprised him as he let out an audible grunt.
“Alright, alright! Get off me, dude. You're getting way too sappy for my liking!”
“...And just like that, you ruined the moment.”
At this point, should it really be a surprise for anyone?
I'm not a liar, darlings.
When I say that I'm going to do something? I mean it. It doesn't matter what the goal is, if I set my mind to it? I'm going to accomplish it. I told everyone when coming into Unbreakable Resolution II that I would leave with the X-Factor Championship still in my possession, and I did. I fought arguably my greatest challenge yet, another champion- albeit an inferior one- on Proving Ground, and I overcame him. I hope that anyone else who has their eyes on MY title has finally come to the realization that it'll take nothing short of a miracle to stop me now. But if English wants another chance, I'll be waiting for him to dent his big ass forehead in with a chair. That said? I'm moving on, looking forward to what's next in front of me.
And right now? I see two familiar faces in my path. Kyle Valentine, DJ Hunter- the Phantom Troupe. Two rookies with promising potential that they continue to show with every match. I've had a personal interest in them both, watching them climb the ladder and getting closer and closer to possibly the best tag team in Proving Ground when they inevitably became champions. They're riding a lot of momentum…
So, it's really heartbreaking to have to be the one that stops that to a halt.
See, DJ and Kyle- lovelies. Sometimes life just isn't fair. You two fought a killer match at Unbreakable Resolution, and I commend you for that- and I truly do hate that you're being booked in such a hopeless situation. The both of you just drew a really unlucky card.
Because you're not just facing any other team. You're not facing the dorks you faced in your last match, you're not facing two people randomly paired together. Babes, you're up against Emmanuelle and MYOJIN; the Platinum Standard and the Shining Star.
Or better yet, the newly-crowned Grand Champion and the successfully retaining X-Factor Champion.
Emmanuelle and I, we're cut from the same cloth. For starters, the both of us are probably the hottest faces Project: Honor has to offer- but all jokes aside? We have that same drive. It took me a long time, with many ups and downs, to reach where I am now- just like it took Emmy a hard-fought journey to the top of the mountain. The thing is, we don't grow complacent. We don't sit idly in our thrones, no- We actively push ourselves to be the best. We've been up against each other and we've teamed with each other many times. To call us in sync would be an understatement.
And while you two are good, you just don't compare. You're not on our level, not just yet. I don't want you both to let your heads get big just because you defeated two clowns.
Kyle, I'm sure you remember when I was this close to breaking your arm to the point where your partner had to throw in the towel. You fought hard, you fought bravely- But, hun, there was a clear difference between the two of us. There was something that you were missing, and it was the experience that I have. And with Emmanuelle on my side? We're an unstoppable force.
Kyle, DJ…. I'm sorry, but the two of you just don't compare.
Right now, Emmanuelle and I stand as the most dominant team on this brand with two-thirds of singles gold in our grasp. Who knows? Maybe we'll eventually decide to start aiming for the Tag Team Championships ourselves. But until then, we're going to do what we do best- and that is BEING the best.
You two are undoubtedly good, but you both have a long way to go still. And there's nothing wrong with that, I expect you both to bring the fight like you always do. It's just, unfortunately, this time?
It won't be enough.
