“He who conquers himself is the mightiest warrior.” - Confucius
One person that has had to conquer a lot in their life is none other than Joseph Blaze. Not only did religion save his life but the person who is referred to surprisingly as The Savior. Before anyone can become mighty in life they have to conquer themselves and their demons. Joseph had a lot of demons to conquer and believe it or not still had demons to deal with. On the outside, Joseph may look like he has all his shit together but deep down inside him is demons trying to fight their way out. Joseph is a mighty warrior and for years now has managed to keep them at bay. There have been times where Joseph has had to repent for his sins. It wasn’t so long ago that Joseph nearly did give in to his demons but once again The Savior was there fortunately to save him.
It was the anniversary of his pregnant wife’s death, he’d been out to her grave, it was in a nice spot, a spot where Grace and Joseph would always go. They’d go there for romantic picnics or just to get away from the world and for it to be just them. This particular day, Joseph has decided to wander into a store and pick up a bottle of whiskey. Getting back to the compound, Joseph had thought he’d managed to find somewhere to be alone, only that wasn’t the case. The Savior had been keeping an eye on Joseph and had seen that he’d picked up a bottle of whiskey. As The Savior watched on hoping that the strength Joseph had already shown was enough to stop the inner demons from coming out, Joseph undid the bottle of whiskey unaware that he wasn’t alone.
“Forgive me, Grace. Forgive me, Savior. And forgive me, everyone.”
Just as the bottle touched the lips of Joseph Blaze, The Savior had seen enough and Superkicks the bottle out of Joseph’s hand. The bottle of whiskey is sent flying into the wall and shatters into a million pieces or so.
“Joseph, do not let the demons win!!! You’re a mighty warrior and a Champion. You’ve accomplished so much. I will not allow you to stray from your path. I forgive you, Grace forgives you and the rest will forgive you. You’re not alone brother when I saw you I saw promise in you, not just another lost soul that needed saving. There was something special about you and there still is.”
Looking up at The Savior you could see the guilt in the eyes of Joseph as the tears from his eyes started to flow.
“I’m… I’m sor… Sorry.”
That’s all Joseph is able to have the strength to say at the moment as he falls down to his knees. The Savior walks over to Joseph and places a hand on his shoulder.
“Joseph… Don’t punish yourself like this. Let the tears flow, don’t bottle it up. I will not let the demons within overcome you and I will not let yourself allow it to happen. Bright and early tomorrow we’re going to get back to training you into a Champion that I know you’re capable of being. Now get to your feet and tell me who you’re and what you are.”
Removing his hand from Joseph’s shoulder, The Savior steps back allowing Joseph the space to get back to his feet. That’s just what Joseph does, he gets to his feet and wipes the tears from his face on his long sleeve shirt.
“I am Joseph Blaze. I am The Messenger. I am a mighty warrior and I am a CHAMPION!!!”
“That’s it… Say it louder. What are you?”
“I AM A CHAMPION… I AM A CHAMPION… YES, I AM A CHAMPION, MY SAVIOR!!!”
Still, with teary eyes, Joseph smiles at The Savior who just nods in return.
“Don’t worry about the broken glass, I’ll have someone clean it, you go and get some rest because tomorrow we train.”
“Yes, Savior.”
They both head off in different directions, The Savior going to get someone to clear up the broken glass and Joseph going to head off for some rest. Once he’d arrived at his room in the compound, Joseph closes the door behind him and sits on the edge of his bed.
“I’m sorry Grace. I almost turned to the devil’s juice. I’ve let you down. I promise I’ll do better. I told you I’d always wear my wedding ring.”
As Joseph sits there talking to his wife that obviously isn’t there he starts to play with his wedding ring on his finger.
“Grace, I’m going to be a Champion. I’m going to do it for all of us. You, our unborn baby, and for me too. See you in the morning, I love you, good night and sweet dreams.”
After getting undressed, Joseph got under the covers as he got into bed. There is nothing but darkness as Joseph pulls the cord turning out the lights.
ON CAMERA
“I'll be the last one standing
Two hands in the air, I'm a champion
You'll be looking up at me when it's over
I live for the battle, I'm a soldier, yeah
I'm a fighter like Rocky
Put your flag on your back like Ali
Yeah, I'm the greatest I'm stronger
Paid my dues, can't lose, I'ma own ya, ay
I've been working my whole life
And now it's do or die”
As the music stops there, ‘The Messenger’ Joseph Blaze walks into view of the camera. He has that natural cheesy smile. The sort of smile that may well be full of joy to him but to others, it can become annoying rather quickly. As Joseph stands there in front of the camera, he puts his hands together in a prayer motion as he lowers his head. A few moments pass before Joseph lifts his head up and faces the camera now without any smile on his face. All the emotion you could get from his face is that whatever he was about to say or preach was going to be serious. The hands of Joseph are no longer in a prayer motion either as he stares deeply into the camera giving you the feeling that he was staring deep into your soul.
“Brothers, sisters, and even that heathen Chloe XO I hope you all had a good Christmas. I hope you all didn’t forget the real meaning behind Christmas either. Please forgive me because I’m about to Sin. Chloe, I’m not sure you’ll understand what the true meaning of Christmas is so please don’t hurt your pretty head trying to figure it out. Leave that to me when you and I face each other in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I want to be the reason you’re hurting. I did warn you I was about to Sin and I really do hope you forgive me for taking your dreams away Chloe. I’m here in Project Underground to send a message and if I can do that all while proving while I should be a Champion then so be it. I won’t lose any sleep though if I don’t have your forgiveness because I will have the blessing of my Savior.”
Still, with that serious look on his face, Joseph holds his arms out wide to the side still staring deeply into the camera. Once again after a few moments, he lowers his hands.
“So before I started to ramble on, brothers, sisters, and that heathen Chloe, I had something to address. Yes, the song that was playing to start with and I will continue to play when relevant was a Carrie Underwood song. To be precise it’s called “The Champion” and you can quite see why it’s appropriate. I, Joseph Blaze, am going to be The Champion here in Project Underground. I’m not only doing it for me or for my brothers and sisters out there but I’ll be doing it for my Savior too. Yes, I’m here to send a message for him but I’m also here to be my own man along with it and that starts with proving why I am going to be The Champion. Carrie Underwood is right in her song though Chloe, I am going to be the last one standing with two hands in the air.”
Those words linger in the air just long enough for them to make an impact before Joseph claps his hands together to start the music playing again.
“I am invincible, unbreakable
Unstoppable, unshakeable
They knock me down, I get up again
I am the champion, you're gon' know my name
You can't hurt me now, I can't feel the pain
I was made for this, yeah, I was born to win
I am the champion”
The music is once again brought to a stop with a clap of Joseph’s hands as now he manages a slight smirk from the corner of his mouth.
“That’s right, you may knock me down but I will get up again. Not only do I have the responsibility of making sure the message gets across but the responsibility of backing my words up. I am going to be a champion, and not only are you going to know my name, Chloe Sindashian but the whole of Project Underground will. Now I’m not underestimating you at all Mrs. Sindashian after all you’re far more dangerous than your beautifully heathen looks. I will admit that you’re the prettiest deathmatch wrestler I’ve seen. I remember a while ago seeing some wrestler who did deathmatches calling himself something silly like Mass Destruction or whatever. Anyway, stop making me go off-topic with your devilish ways, I will not accept any distractions on my way to being The Champion that I am. I’m a nice guy so when I finally do get recognized and handed a shiny Title Belt, I’ll allow you to buy me ice cream and I’ll allow you to touch the Title Belt, Sindashian.”
Finally, the seriousness goes as Joseph starts to laugh. The laugh echoes around wherever they were. All that can be seen is Joseph Blaze and that is it so not even sure where he is or the location of where he is. When the laughter stops, Joseph is straight back to the serious expression and cold deep stare into the camera.
“Oh, Sindashian. I’m truly sorry because I know how much it means to you to want to be a champion but it just can’t be. I’m going to have to break your heart because being a champion means a lot to me. It means that all the training I have done with The Savior has paid off. That I’m worthy of The Savior’s believes in my abilities and that he was right to believe in me too. The Savior in his own right was a Champion during his time as a wrestler. I’ve seen The Savior at work, I’ve seen that I’ve been trained by the best and continue to do so. Most of all though, it’d mean a lot to me to be a Champion because it’d be something I can bring great Honor to and something that I’d be Godly at doing.”
This time a cocky smirk appears on ‘The Messenger’ Joseph Blaze’s face.
“Don’t worry, I will be Keeping Up With The Sindashian as I have a message to deliver whatever it takes.”
There is nothing but darkness now as the sound of Joseph Blaze’s footsteps gets quieter the further he walks away.
