No One Man Should Have All This...
"Power."
This right here may be a flashback sequence of some sort but it's kind of hard to tell from the way it looks. There's no filter or anything but the young black kid that's seated in the front row of this arena that is packed to the brim with fans of professional wrestling is looking on with the widened eyes of a young man that knows exactly what he wants to be when he grows up.
A professional wrestler.
"Sometimes, we never really know or understand how much of it we have."
Inside the ring, The Sharp Dynasty stands tall and proud as the three of them are engaged in a vicious battle against their bitter rivals, a terrorist flavored group known as The Klaw. Of course, The Klaw is currently in control of the match as they've isolated Kenny Sharp from his nephews and they are wailing away at him in their corner.
It's absolute bullshit. But the referee doesn't seem to be doing anything about it. The deck is clearly stacked in The Klaw's favor.
"Sometimes, most of the time, people like me... people like us don't have any power."
Kenny Sharp headbutts his way out of the corner and flattens Ulysses Kubrick with the Sharper Image DDT. This gives him enough time to crawl across the ring. It takes him longer than it should but he reaches for the outstretched hands of Kenan and Kel, The Sharp Twins. Ulysses is back on his feet. Kenny reaches. Ulysses dives for Kenny's ankle...
HOT TAG!
Kenan Sharp dives over the top rope and explodes into the ring with all the fury of an uncaged lion.
"We're stuck. Unable to move without relying on someone else's charity or handout."
Kenan Sharp lays into the three members of The Klaw, sending two of them off the apron to the floor below and then squaring up on Ulysses with a SPEAR that damn near folds him in half.
"We can only rise to the top on the shoulders and merits of others."
Kenan stomps out Ulysses and heads over to the corner to tag Kel's outstretched hand. Kel hops up to the top turnbuckle and goes airborne. He hits the Shooting Sharp Press with textbook impressiveness. Kel hooks the leg and the referee drops for the three count.
"No matter who we think we are, we cannot do this alone."
Back on the eyes of the young lad in the front row watching as The Sharp Dynasty celebrates their victory. His eyes are lit up and he just stares at them for the longest moment.
"That's the way they want it. They don't want you to succeed. They don't want you to win."
Backstage now and The Sharp Dynasty are collectively celebrating. Even the women in the family have gathered around and they're all just congratulating each other. They're a family. The only one not in the circle... is the young man from the front row. He sits on one of the benches and he just watches as the others share and enjoy this moment. A spot nearby but surrounded by bags and purses rather than the loving embrace of the rest of his bloodline.
"It's not fair."
"It's not supposed to be."
The Sharp Family start to file out of the dressing room, one by one. None of them even paying a second thought or glance in the direction of the small kid that's softly crying in the corner.
"But we're not gonna' let that stop us, are we? We're not gonna' just stand here and take whatever's shoved in our faces."
The Sharp Family is long gone and the kid gets up from the bench and drags himself over to the lockers. He just stares at them, silent tears rolling down his cheeks.
"We deserve better. We deserve more. We deserve the world."
The kid steels himself and reaches up to wipe the tears from his face. He reaches into the locker of Kenny Sharp and that hand comes back out with a framed picture of the entire Sharp Dynasty. He just stares at it. The longer he stares at it, the angrier he seems to become.
"And since nobody's going to give it to us..."
The kid smashes the picture, breaking the glass and cutting up his hand in the process. The picture is dropped to the ground and his blood drips from his palm down to the picture.
"We'll just fucking take it."
The kid's sneaker CRUNCHES what's left of the glass and the bloody picture as he decides to walk away. From all of this. His head bowed as he resolves himself to his decision.
"My name was Killian Sharp."
The kid's head lifts slowly as time shifts from the past to the present.
"Now it's Scar."
As time shifts, the kid's rising face becomes Scar's current face.
"Welcome to The Pride."
Scar's standing at a podium on a stage inside of an undisclosed location. He's standing tall in front of a small group of very dedicated and handpicked persons of color. They all seem to be from a variety of walks of life, judging from their different states of dress and the expressions on their face. Around the room are current members of The Pride as they all seem to be standing at attention.
Scar grins a bit as he leans towards the microphone a bit more to continue to address the growing numbers of his organization.
"I lost the only family I had when I was seven years old. They turned their backs on me because they thought I wouldn't amount to anything in their world. So I took that pain and I turned it into Pride. I traveled the world, trying to find myself and my place in it. I found others that were lost like me and we decided to be lost together. And that's why you're all here. To stop feeling lost. To start being appreciated. To become a part of something greater. Something that cannot be ignored. Something that cannot be contained. Something that cannot be stopped."
Scar straightens up a bit, which causes the resting leopard on stage to lift her head slightly.
"We all want different things. Different things that can be achieved once we secure our common goal. And as long as we stay true and loyal to each other, there is no power on this Earth that can stop The Pride."
Scar's grin curls into a more sinister one. The grins on the faces of Karma and Erika Stevens seem to mimic it. Even some of the new recruits in the small crowd are falling in line as well.
"This world will be ours. Soon. And the only thing I ask of you, is to Be Prepared."
"Different but same."
"I hear that a lot. Lots of people like to think that we're alike. Lots of people want to compare their lives to mine. Lots of people swear they struggled the same way I did growing up. But when we really take a step back and see what's up?"
"They ain't 'bout that life."
"Nobody really about my life. Nobody wants to grow up on the streets. Nobody wants to have their entire family's legacy called into question. Nobody tryin’ get treated like a second, third, or fourth class citizen because of where they come from.”
“Y’all ain’t ready for that life. Y’all ain’t ready for that reality.”
“When this shit started, I swore I was next in line to take my family’s legacy to new heights. I thought, for sure, that I would be the one leading The Sharp Dynasty into the new age. But they told me I was too small. That I wasn’t tough enough. That I didn’t have the heart for this. They took away my dream before I even had a chance to reach for it.”
“So I took myself away from them. I fought my way up, forging my own path. I was determined to make my own way. I didn’t need them. Still don’t. All I need is a chance. An opportunity. A shot.”
“And that’s what I’m going to take from you, Sterling.”
“You see, like you, I’ve got my eye on the top spot here in Project Underground. I want to be the best. A lot of people might say that I already am and that's fine. But what good is being the best if I don't have the crown? The throne?"
"You want the same thing. You want to sit in the spot that was snatched from me before I even had a chance to touch it. And I don't blame you. I really don't. If I were in your shoes, well, first I'd burn them because there's not enough What're Those Memes to make those make sense. But then I'd really try to understand why I wanted to take food out of the mouth of someone like, well, me."
"I've realized something since I've been fighting to survive and that's that everybody thinks they are entitled to something. Everyone believes that something belongs to them or that they deserve this and that. I don't exclude myself from this either. To this day, I swear my parents owe me an explanation of why they never came to look for me after I ran away. Why I was never on any milk cartons. Why I was never a missing person's case. And I've come to find out that the answer to all of those things is the same reason why it all happened in the first place..."
"Nobody cares."
"Nobody cares about the little guy. Nobody cares about the kid that didn't eat that night. Nobody cares about why their son never made it back home from the greatest night in their family legacy's history. Why? Because they are too busy worrying about people like you, Sterling. Worrying about whether or not the spoiled brat has managed to earn another participation trophy. Worrying about whether or not the privileged few are getting the care and attention they so don't richly deserve. Maybe even worrying about how much they're going to have to bribe the people of Project Underground to take you in and give you something to do while you're bored."
"This isn't just something for me to do, Sterling. This is my life. This is all that I am. I've already lost everything so there's nothing else for me to lose."
"And if you think that I'm going to start my legacy by allowing some trust funded prick like you to walk all over me, like your ancestors did mine, then you're in for more than a rude awakening."
"I'm not here to make friends. I'm not even here to make enemies. When I step into that ring, I'm bringing every single ounce of pain and struggle with me. I'm bringing all my anger, all my rage, everything that I've ever known and I'm bringing it to your fucking front lawn if I have to."
"I've been waiting my entire life for this moment. This moment where I finally get to show the world who I am. This moment where nothing stands in my way. This moment where the entire professional wrestling industry becomes aware of the only man worthy of wearing the crown."
"This is not your story, Sterling. Not anymore. You've set your sights on something that never belonged to you in the first place and I'm going to make sure you won't get so much as a sniff without going through me."
"Maybe you'd have fared better against Killian Sharp but that boy died a long time ago."
"Now you have to face a beast of a different nature. A beast with nothing to lose and everything to gain. A beast with Pride."
"A beast named Scar...
and I Just Can't Wait To Be King."
